saw yamaha at Riverside St Albert with sled track and ski steer.
Looks awesome.
Did some internet browsing and as far as I can see only "snoxcycle" and "2moto" that have then available.
Looks ideal
got a 450 ktm so should be able to tick over.
Anyone out there who tried any before ?

I want it!:d

Yep.
I had a look after I posted first message.
They also produce the EXPLORER SATS( smart all terrain system) that basically bolts onto your existing swingarm.
Costs about $2000 dollars less than the RADIX conversion kit which needs airbox and swingarm and brake system and shocks to be removed.
About 5 hour job at $100 per hour.

It looks like the AD Boivin Explorer might be the way to go given the price and the ease of installation.
I will read a bit more.
ONE thing is for sure, I'm gonna get some sort of kit for the bike this winter!!

Cheers

Hey Northstar

I don't want a sled.
I would buy a snowhawk if I had the bucks.

My argument is that I can get a track system for $3000 bucks and use my own bike.
Granted, there will be a learning curve and I most likely won't be able to keep up with the sleds.
If I had $12000, I would buy a snowhawk

Thanks for your input

Cheers:)

Hey!! what's up doc????

Just get a pair of studded tire for a $1000...So you still feel like you're riding a dirt bike...not a "dirt sled"!!!

Hey dudes I know a fella in white court who put a similar system on Husaberg 5 something and he said if he didn't own the business he woun't have put them on his bike ..... And know they don't work very well in deep snow as we were with him while he was testing his new " snow bike " and it looked very cumbersome and not at all agile like a bike should be , but the worst part was it seemed to dive as soon as he hit any amount of snow deeper than ( hard pack ) sorry to rain on your parade but maybe you should listen to that dude who told you to install studded tires....:aim_sorry::nopic::skidoo::firefire:

you can rain don't worry.
Got a big enough umbrella.
I must admit, the more I get into it, the more my enthusiasm decreases.
Lots of unanswered questions
Even at best, 3-5 thou is a lot to part with . Nevermind the questions.
I guess one will have to test drive a couple of brands and see which one, if any stands up to it.
For the moment I am still trying to get some mileage out of fall.

Thanks for the replies

Make sure you post your impressions. Will be interesting. The snowhawk I saw would go anywhere a sled or tracked quad would go with the only downside being that when you slowed down in deep powder you can get stuck like a sled does. Secret appears to be to keep moving when in the fluff.

Mat, Mat , Mat

that's comparing rocks to grapes :)

I have actually given the studs some thought.
Lots of guys on the advrider forum use them.

Presently just ordered GS Adventure, so if I do anything, I will go for cheapest option , ie tires.

Would still like to see what 2moto and or explorermoto does in real life.

gotta do a real life compare

cheers:beer:

I ordered the 2 moto kit from riverside over a month ago. Big gongshow. Ended up buying from kit from Blackfoot in Calgary and should be cheaper than Riverside even with the shipping. For some reason only one box showed up on greyhound today though. I was told from Brett at 2moto to run a JD jet kit. Hope they r easy to tune. Gonna tackle installing kit myself. I've already dismantled bike. Will post my thoughts on kit after test drive.

Dear Doc...

How can you use the world "cheap" after ordering a BMW??? :)

Dirt Bike magazine had a little article about the Explorer system in December. It look awesome. But if you look a the picture there is a lot of snow. Do we get enough snow??? With the wife and kids I don' t have time to take a week end to go ride in the mountains. So my money is still on the Trellys...Oh by the way you should have bought them when I told you, because now they are $200 more a piece... Stupid economy...

Installed yesterday . approx 5 hrs. I am really surprised how well it works. Better than I had expected. The weight transfer under throttle is excellent. just like a sled. Hard pack snow will take some getting used to with the ski. Very well engineered kit. Also doesn't scrub nearly as much power as I expected it to.
