Sledding in Trail?

Anyone know if there is good sledding around trail? I have relatives that want me to make a trip but im not sure if its worth my time travelling all that way when golden is way closer! Any alpine or is it mostly roads and cutblocks? Thanx to anyone with any info!

where are you coming from,
I'm from warfield and been riding in the area for years,(Trail,Salmo,Castlgar,ects),
I don't ride much around Trail because of the lack of snow and the mountains are not high enough, but there is great riding in the other places around here
I like to ride up the Salmo Creston cut-off because it's a mini revelstoke with-out the people, great snow and above alpine,Up marble is good, beaver is ok the norns is good, Lot's of great riding only about 1/2hour truck ride to most places, You need to talk to locals to find the hidden riding areas,

My relatives live between trail and warfeild i do believe! It sounds like they leave from their home and ride the roads around there! How far are the riding areas from warfeild? Im really considering a trip out there in a week or two if the conditions are ok! Thanx for the info! Coming from Edmonton!

Warfield is only about 2 minutes from Trail,
I think i know where your relatives ride it's called Violin Lake area and Casino, I can ride from my house there too but is logging roads,lake ride,pipeline and power line ride.
It's pretty boring and mundane riding but if your into that then have fun.
I ride alot and can show you where to go but, you need a reliable sled(no farm sled), and please no rookies to mountain riding.My back gets to sore from pulling out.

To funny we are going up for the family day week (for you guys in BC its the week after valintines day) Going to see my mom who lives in Salmo and looking for riding areas. Where can you stage to go up Salmo Creston. And what do you know about Sheep creek and poricpine and the blueberry pulson?

Also good riding at the Bombi summit between Salmo and Castlegar.

X2 on that from Trail ½ hour to 45 min drive places you in some great areas from the groomed trail to extreme Mtn riding. Norns, Salmo Creston Summit and Ladybird all great. Bombi is probably one of the closest to you with a staging area at the power line you can access Alpine into Marble / Siwash Mtn may want to check locals on trail pass from Bombi. Marble you can also access from the Salmo side as well via Erie Creek Granite Cr. staging not great this side.
Gold Range is another S.E. of Fruitvale limited alpine but good riding depending on access points check on trail pass’s Beaver Valley Club Fruitvale on this one not sure if this is club or not?
Sheep Creek great area as well, some great chutes for climbing what you go up you come down not a lot of access around the back side’s be cautious of Caribou closer areas in this region. Caution on Avy conditions in some of these areas you can tell by the trees the avy’s are violent lot’s of run out’s and terrain traps they come down and part way up the other side of the mountain.

broke trail into marble few weeks ago and avalanche condtions there are low ,they already came down . then rode into rover from the steed hut cabin area and had a hell of a time getting back out into marble side but was alot of fun,
heading into panther lake area up sheep creek in the next week probably to break trail again that is the best riding anywear around here . No people great snow and above alpine.Can't wait to get out.

Well thanx for the info everyone! Is there a website i could get maps to riding areas from! Im really considering goin there just to try it out once! Mayb have a yearly one week trip if its good! Just dont want to drive 10 or 12 hours if the snow or riding isnt all that great! It sounds like you all have nice areas to explore and a few hills i couldnt make it to the top of! LOL!

No to sure of a website but google earth is good ,
We are locals and know the areas from experience from 4x4ing, quading and dirt biking, (fishing ect ). I recommend coming up here for a weekend or two for the experience of boondocking and finding your own fun, have a safe fun ride.

For sure Google Earth is the best and Map Source with the GPS.
Good to hear about Marble was up last season sweet area in there and quite the trail through the trees on the Granite Cr side someone had fun bushwhacking that one.
Riding this Saturday with a buddy from Winlaw, I am thinking somewhere close to home Salmo area he’s thinking Norn’s? Have to flip a coin, then Sunday thinking of checking out Meteor Mine Hill climbs going to call Aaron @ Main Jet see what’s up haven’t seen anything posted other then Main Jet’s web site.

Emailed Dan from BMSA late December or early Jan and he said they have NO tenure on the Bombi (never have had one all these years) and no agreement with Atco (private property up Bombi), so no worries about trail passes up there, but on the downside, no grooming this year. Last time up there, there was active logging so PLEASE stay off the plowed roads - it's illegal and common sense says you'll lose out if you head on a logging truck or a crummy for that matter! :d Powerline trail from parking lot is bumpy but a whole lot safer. They were logging West Munson road so it the main road is unplowed from about 3.5km and on towards Granite pass.

Beaver mtn is same as Bombi, no tenure or agreement unless they've struck something up since my contact with Dan.

Porcupine (Darkwoods/NCC) is only area they (and Creston club) have an agreement but no tenure and no grooming. See my other thread on Porcupine/NCC.
