anyone know where to find a alpine twin track? I found 2 in edmonton but would like more choices like a alpine II if I could find one. I also found a honda gas powered 5000 pound winch on e-bay. Im going to go check out the local honda shop tomorrow to see what they have. looks like a winch is going to be around $2000 but it will be the cats ass lol. I will mount the winch on a ski frame so I can pull it with my RMK or a twin track. worst case I winch out of a bowl to get it to the twin track. any info would be great!

Have you checked with Barry yet on help. When doing some serious pulls up I recall Rod saying he used a pully off a rock or tree with another sled as the pull sled and it worked slick. With no effort, wouldn't need to waste money on a winch.

sorry dont know Barry! the winch is just to be 100% sure that all sleds will come out! lol in time I would be able to pull anything out of almost anywhere. if I can see it I can walk to it and I can pull it out. I thought of securing a pulley at the top of a hill and hooking the end to my RMK and driving it down the hill pulling the wrecked sled up the hill with a bungie but if I can just hook and pull I think it would be a one man show. it will cost more to set up but it will be better in the long run. even if I use my RMK to pull the winch on a ski frame. which would pull the dead sled to a trail where I can hook up to with the twin track. my goal is to not kill myself but to get sled out lol.

Don't want to be doing this on your own at night or relay anytime of the day for that mater. If you brake down than what. Long walk. Good idea though, if you have a partner. RMK:beer:

I have 7 sleds at home if needed. if your sled was getting pulled out would you like to be there? or would you just say pull it out and bring it to your place or hotel? I have friends that I could pay to come also. I would have two sleds with me anyways even if I was by myself. I would pull my RMK behind the twin track for finding the dead sled. when all said and done, I would pull both down in the custom skimmer. one way or an other I would be coming back lol. plus my dad who is 80 sleds and if I was not back he would be comeing to get me lol. nothing stops him lol.

well im not looking to work it 7 days a week since I snow plow also but if I did a recovery 1 or 2 times a week that would work for me. I still have to sled lol.

The z1 bearcat from cat has 2" receiver and winch attachment for the front and rear , has a 20 x 156 track........large rear rack. i m thinking u could pull alot of weight with it, plus it will go about 70 mph! get in get out.... oh ya and there is a snowblade attachment for it too!!! 2" reciever front and back...

I dont know why but guys have been telling me to stay away from the bearcat! the skandic swt is twice the pulling sled. Im also starting off with min $ so a new sled is out of the picture. A Ski-doo Alpine is around 2-3000 so probably going to have to go that way. the honda winch and 600 feet of rope is going to be around 2000-2500. I still need to build the skimmer and hitches for the work sled. this is getting up there in price. I need to sell my car! anyone want a supercharged, mid engine, rear wheel drive, 2 seater sports car for $5900. I lowered the price for quick sale!

the boys have done at least 20 recoveries already this year. we use our regular sleds with pulley and if needed 2000 ft. of rope to pull up the big hills. there is a tried and tested way to get sleds up the biggest hills we have here (even winebergers) and we have yet to be skunked and we charge for the area the sled is in. cabins are cheap and the further back you go the more the money.
heli rides here are very expensive so that is the reason for so many jobs this year and we don't care what shape the dead sled is in, if it's dead we will recover it for you. most guys don't stick around to help as they have come to ride and most rent to keep riding or go home and we will deliver to where ever you want in Mcbride.
we use up to 3 guys per recovery but alot of time it is 2 guys and all day. we bill in a belt on every recovery as one of the sleds is most likley the tow sled and it will eat up belts.
on a side note, there are 3 sleds in the back of billygoat and have been there for a week, they may have to be helied out but we have yet to be contacted to recover. we are not loggers, which is what it will take to get those out. that is one recovery that would be cheaper to heli out, as to get us to do it.
