I live in sicamous and have been thinking about rigging up a twin track or a super wide track skandic sled with a set up to pull out brokin sleds. just would like to get some info on if guys would use a service like this if the price was fair. in the last week I have helped with two sleds and what a PITA! I plow snow in the winter and just bought all new equipment and this year sucks so far for snow removal lol. I need to come up with a new plan to make some money. give me all your input like what you think is a fair price to what kinda equipment will do the job. it could be a simple as a tow from the cabin on a groomed trail to a full out winch the sled up a cliff recovery!

give me your input! thanks

Sounds like a great idea..... set up a sled with winch front and rear, and get a snow trailer for easy exit

Gotta be cheaper than a chopper

Sounds like a hell of a plan. Good luck with that. might be a big investment with little return but the people that you do help out will really appreciate it.

I would think that a charge by the hour would be the only fair way to charge. With a minimum call out charge. You could also do a repair rate if sled is repaired on the hill.Just my immediate thoughts. Also I think you may be on to a viable idea here as a chopper is a very expensive option. Hmmm, mobile sled repair and recovery!

I wonder if you would be busy enough. Sledders spend lots on sleds but are notoriously cheap!! Might have to expand for several services to make it viable! Good luck :d:beer:

well im not looking to work it 7 days a week since I snow plow also but if I did a recovery 1 or 2 times a week that would work for me. I still have to sled lol.

maybe set up one of those portable gas winches with a sled sleigh, advertise everywhere you can think ofas a lot of guys are from out of town. maybe check to see what some of the sled rental places do. you could find a work sled and get it set up.
find out what local rates are.

I'm sure if your rates were reasonable you would be busy...wouldn't take much to be cheaper then a chopper ride. Like stated above you would need lots of advertising...which would be cheap and easy...post at the cabins,Hotels, sled shops ect and I'm sure you would have more business then you can handle

we have 4 sled hills, and lived here all my life and never heard of anyone have a recovery sled. I heard Mark in revelstoke does it but nothing in sicamous. I figure I could get most sleds out for $500-$600. heard it is around $1500 to get a choper to get you out at blue lake! I just have to find a alpine twin track or a skandic swt to set up. if anyone hears of one between sicamous and edmonton let me know!

are one of those sleds going to be able to yank a sled out of some of these riding areas?

why not a mountain sled with a widening kit and a 174x3 with tractor gears with a front and rear mount winch with some sort of pull behind unit

Im going to build a 5th wheel type hitch that the track will go up on with a skimmer type sled under the skies. you pull the sled backwards and there is more weight on the tow sled and the twin tracks did pull lots. I plan to have winch with synthitic rope lines (500 feet plus) on front and back so I can pull a sled up or pull myself up if I cant drive. I would like to make a alpine sled with a longer and more agressive track like twin 159x2 inch but Im also looking to try to get this going next month before the big spring sleding. I can always build this in the summer. the twin tracks dont turn all that great that is why they make those super wide tracks now. the skandic uses a 156x24 inch track in the late 90's and they do pull alot. I figure I set up with recovery gear on a skimmer and also pull up my RMK. I unload my sled at the end of the groomed trail and go find the broken sled with GPS points. and figure out what I need to bring in to recover sled. I go back and get twin track and recover the sled and hook up skimmer with my RMK on it and pull it down the groomed trail with broken sled. they will both pull if they are not dragging. I wont be in a race but can haul alot if needed to. if it is a big job I can always bring another guy and will not have to tow my RMK.

yeah you deffinetly need a search sled. you cant be searching around and boondocking on a twin track LOL..

what if the sled is in an awkward spot? ie a sidehill to get out. twin track wont be much good?

i guess you can winch it out of that situation
