I have a 3500 megacab.Airbags.No lift.275/17 tires.Factory headlights.Sled deck.
When this thread reaches page 27 I will go weigh it.
I do not own a tap-out t-shirt,a flat brimmed hat,or oakleys of any color.

I was guessing over 600 lbs per sled, full of gas, with full small jerry can and storage tunnel boxes full of tools or whatever, and spare belt etc...

They got smashed out years ago driving on our gravel covered hiways..Never replaced them.So no.

my recommendation is a deck like mine, they're tufflift decks. A guy makes them all in the shop down in Idaho.

Judging guys pay $4000 for a marathon deck and it's just that. A deck. For $7500 this thing is all aluminum, and you can use it for anything you have, sleds, quads, side by sides, small fishing boat, sea doo's, furniture, garbage, dirt and anything else under 4000lbs. It doesn't weigh as much as you would think. I am going to weigh my truck with the deck on to get some numbers.

No..., you better sell it and buy a lifted F150 regular can long box. But be sure to remove the spare, stereo, bumpers, and airbags so you come in under payload

The manufactures tailor trucks gear ratio's to their payload. If you look at some models the gear ratio is higher for different payloads. They want to keep the truck in the sweet spot for optimum performance and mileage. If the truck isn't going to tow anything why bother having low gears. Higher gears means lower payload. Just like on silverado a the 3500 single rear wheel is the same axle that is on the 2500 except the added overload spring on top of the pack. Frame is the same as well except for the added length, the "rear axle" weight limit is higher on the 3500 because of the added leaf. Don't confuse that with the GVWR. The longer wheel base in combination with higher axle weight limit give it a higher GVWR.

Ive never seen gear ratio affect payload. It DEFINITELY affects towing capacity, but not payload. Only heavier axles, and the biggest thing is the tires that I've ever seen affect payload.

It doesn't affect payload. Only trailer weight.

I believe it is just a mistake on how he posted his finding.

Your right I was looking at the towing capacity and the ratios before I posted and had that stuck in my head. It has nothing to do with the payload. Sorry fellas.

Payload rating is still the same regardless of the gear ratio.

Payload is a misleading term, the thing that the DOT is concerned about is GVW. My truck is rated for 11,700lbs that is everything, passengers, fuel, cargo and hitch weight. on all the documents describing payload there will always be a disclaimer "*when properly equipped" so in the end it is up to you the driver to make sure that you are under the vehicles rated GVW and that the weight on both front and rear axles are within manufactures specifications.

You can have a GCW of 11700lbs but have different payload ratings, short box long box etc, even a full load truck will have a lower payload than a plain jane truck.

Really at the end of the day dot will look at your tire rating first.
