Actually this reminds me of another polaris dealer story, that a friend told me. He went to pick up his new sled and was told polaris had taken away the rebates that was offered in the spring, he told them to go pound sand and bought a doo.

Good for your friend! He made the right decision to walk away.

The rebates from Polaris did not go away on the snow checks and the dealer that said so is dishonest.

Re: Sled Deal Gone Bad-but maybe not really

Well my man i say wrong... If they are a reputible place they know when they are getting the sled and when your new one will come in and they should price things accordingly.. So for them to back out now is wrong... I'd call polaris customer service and complain.. That is complete bad business practice on the dealerships part... this is my opinionm and 2cents... I worked at a couple dealerships in the pasts 20yrs..

Which is why I asked if he had a guaranteed value for his sled in October 08 when he made his snow check deal in April. A good reputable dealer and a knowledgable customer would have a solid deal in print and each would have a copy.

vjc...take the Assault (you will not be disappointed) and the rebate and move the M privately. I think you have until November 30 to pick it up. Put your M up now...you should be able to move that unit for a good $.

that sucks man,,, but from the dealer perspective its tough, the market shifted hard and quick and there are lots of M1s around, flip the story the other way like last year when the dollar was par and evry one was backing out on the dealer because USA was 2 grand cheaper, most small dealers are not making the money that we think so they dont have the room for error on the trades, when I built my new house by the time I moved in my old one dropped 60grand kinda sucked but do ya think the builder jumped in and helped, no not a chance,

good luck dude maybe try and sell the M1 yourself

I kind of feel the same way....I got stiffed from a polaris dealer years ago..I never went back..and down the road changed to Cat....I would not buy the sled from them. Like Glengine says what else would they do...they quote a repair and then after the job is done change their mind...dealers do have some struggles...it would be one thing if it was just a discussion about numbers but a contract...they should honour it but you would not have a good relationship with that dealer...

its not a good feeling but its business, with todays market changing huge almost every hour, Glen lets say ya pre-sell turbo kits late in the spring season for install in october and then in the summer the manufacturer ups the price 10-20% are you going to eat it, of course if there was huge mark-up but there is not huge mark up so you explain to customer and go from there, u not happy because u loose business and customer not too happy but it can happen in todays market, happens with boats, sleds, vehicles etc...
not fun but reality, I can except a good explanation but if the dealer said its 500 more or beat it, I agree beat it and drag them threw the dirt thats not kool.

p.s. is it snowing out there, its coming soon now woooo hoooo?

I fully understand what you are saying.. But the price of polaris sleds didn't change... Neither did the price of the cats.. That just seems like a shady dealer to me.. Because yah the economy has changed but the prices of sleds are still the same as they were set out to be this spring.. there are people that booked stuff this spring and have now taken delivery of it that are really hurting because of the dollar.. lots of people dont want stuff because of the dollar.

Prices are fluctuating like crazy especially in this industry right now! I've gotten price changes on sled accessories daily.

IMO, what it should come down to on the dealership's part is the value in customer service! Realistically, $500 difference is not a lot on the dealer's part when you'll probably spend that in accessories etc this year alone.

When dealing with customers / prices quoted I've been bit a few times because of price fluctuations and sometimes errors on my part in pricing and if the problem is my fault, at least I stand by my word and I'll eat the difference.

I find if you put the customer FIRST and treat them FAIRLY, usually things work out - especially in the long haul. I'm sure that if the sales guy would've talked to you honestly about the situation, market values etc, versus saying 'we lost your contract, and we want another $500" you might have a new Assault now.

Like i said previously in one of the first posts on this thread.... Go over the dealers head to the manufacturer(polaris) customer service department and get close and personal with them about this case..... That is about your only option now, if you don't have a copy of the snowcheck contract!!! Good luck!!!!!!! Keep us in touch!

And Jeremy, your trying to tell me that if a T.V. station showed up at Stedelbauer's door and told everyone that watched that you're a crook. That it wouldn't be bad for buisness?:twocents:

people think that the salesmen are the crooked sales person. those days are over. it is the buyers who are the liars. i can buy this for this up the road, well then why you here??? becuase they can't!!!! we know that, were in the business. like who are you trying to fool.....
anyways i could go on forever on that subject....both ways. there are good dealerships that are reputable, and then there are the others. and i guess that the same applies to sled dealers.

I have had people enter agreements, signed, all proper, i ship a car across the country, no subject toos, and then they want to back out becuase they had a wet fart and i won't give them their deposit back because i just paid 1500 to ship from ontario, not my fault im living up tp my end of the bargin and i get I am going to the media blah blah blah, these people have cried wolf. the media is sick of hearing from these people as they hear the same old song and dance. and if you want the guy to co-operate with you, threating the media to show up is a very bad idea.

and when you think of what these guys spend in advertising........

for this situation, the customer is 100% in the right but he needs some form of work sheet, with a bill of sale, and a deposit to concrete the deal, with no subject toos, such as reappraisal of the trade.

as far as the media showing up at the doorstep, that is not the type of advertising anyone needs.

i say phone amvic.

i agree 100% we get bit everyday, the dealer your dealing with sounds like a douche bag. if you service there, get copies of what you have spent in the last few years and go put it on the salesmanagers desk. i take lots of deals that suck for my department but are good for the store!!!

How about a dealer who only gives a reciept for the snow cheque, no final value. Then in the fall ups the price and refuses to refund snow cheque money ? No sales contact and receipt does not have nonrefundable or all sales final any where on it.

Always get a receipt with the total negotiated price. If the dealer will not give you the receipt, put the onus back on them and ask "why not?" and if they won't give you the receipt, walk to the dealer who will.
