Jo Dumont Fitness in Red Deer has become a major hub as far as a collection point for donations. They have a U-haul that needs to go to Grande Prairie tonight, and stay there. They are looking for a driver who can take the bus home or arrange a ride somehow. Anyone who can help can contact Shelley at 403-505-3354.

well I finally got some good news today. My son and his mothers house is still standing. the fire stopped across the street)))) Its badly smoke damaged but its still standing. brothers house is gone. moms house is still standing. dads house is standing but has a few 100ft spruce trees leaning on the roof of the house and garage. its been a rough few days but us Slave Lakers are tough folks. I have a few friends gonna come stay with me after they get some cheques from the gov't this afternoon. Sure am glad I moved when i did.

yes they are starting to get some info out slowly. its helpful to have friends in town that are running equipment and fighting the fires too.

news was saying 50%+ at times. that looks more like 20.

funny how they do that

still a huge residential hit

those maps dont show all the homes out of town that were destroyed either tho. I had friends that lost homes on saturday morning. 24hrs before it hit town.
Also there were 3 of the largest apartment complexes in town burnt to the ground.

That's a rough calculation of 200 million in destroyed houses, not including ALE or damages to commercial properties, town infrastructure, loss of business losses, damages to perishable foods and food storage devices, Alot of the other houses and businesses will have suffered smoke or other damages. That's a brief summary, there's alot I never even touched here. Glad there wasn't any lives lost, Items can be replaced. I've ran into a few people that have lost everything and they sure have a good attitude and are coping with this entire thing very well. Looking to meet up with some members this weekend to give them some snowandmud gear.

From "Alberta Wildfire Info" facebook status:

"The widlfire that burned into the town of Slave Lake grew very little last night. The cool, wet weather has helped firefighters continue establishing a fire guard around the fire. The weather has caused smoke and haze to settle into area surrounding the town, but is expected to lift as it gets warmer throughout the day."
