Reiterating I know but just heard again on the news in an interview that the Organizers and Red Cross have asked that physical donation drives be halted at this time due to an overwhelming response.

Canadians wishing to support the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Response efforts are encouraged to contribute by calling 1-800-418-1111, donating through redcross.ca, or contacting their local Red Cross office. Cheques should be made payable to the Canadian Red Cross, earmarked “Alberta Fires” and mailed to the Canadian Red Cross National Office, 170 Metcalfe Street, Suite 300, Ottawa, Ontario, K2P 2P2.

Ya just talked to them personally, they want your cash!!! Got no room for physical donations. The Spruce Grove donations from yesterday and today are already spoken for so we are all good there. The Team Doo Over trailer is almost full again along with a 53ft er!! :d

i remember when we had a big fire out here two years ago, the red cross said the same thing, but there were a lot of people still looking for clothes and what not.

If you wish to donate items the Red Cross is just sayin "they" are full!! Other local agencies such as the Salvation Army etc. may be able to take items however it is best that you call. For our donation drive here in Spruce Grove we are in direct contact with the volunteers that are requesting them. We will take all items mentioned.

We just spoke with the "Edmonton Disaster Relief" they are indicating that the MOST DESPERATELY NEEDED ITEMS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

• Towels -- Preferably NEW
• Bedding (sheets, blankets, pillows etc)
• Mens Socks & Underwear
• Womens Socks and Underwear
• Kids sock & underwear
• TOILETRIES (Shampoo, Soaps, Toothpaste, Mouthwash etc)

Snowandmud.com will be setup in the Home Depot Parking lot on 17th Street and Whitemud tonight from 6-9 pm, and tomorrow from 5-9 pm to assist in collecting these donations. We are in direct contact with Edmonton Disaster Relief as to where to drop these items off.

Cash donations and gift cards will be accepted on site as well.

With over 40% of the town smoldering I'm thinking donations will continue for along time also...

TELUS just sent an email out to all of us employees indicating they will match dollar for dollar all employee donations to the Red Cross via an internal link.

They are also:

Immediately donating $25,000 to the Red Cross in support of relief efforts.
Offering free wireless long distance calling to all residents in the community for at least the next week.
Shipping 1,000 long distance and prepaid wireless calling cards – so residents can keep in touch with family and friends.
Shipping 1,500 comfort kits packed with toiletries to the Red Cross for distribution at evacuation centers set up in nearby communities.

Customers can text “REDCROSS” to 30333 to donate $5 to The Canadian Red Cross Society.

Simple text can help a bunch...text away people!!!!!

This is exactly what I logged on to post! My work got this email this morning! Proud to work for such an amazing company.

I've been working hard all morning nagging friends and family to donate - I'll be running around all night tonight collecting as well!
I'm so proud of everyone contributing and coming together to help out our neighbors going through such a devastating time like this!

I've heard that not even $0.25 of every $1 donated through Telus gets to where it was intended......

Just hearsay but I personally will be donating to actual families not corporations like Telus or Red Cross.....

And to anyone in the High Level area wanting to donate can go to grimshaw trucking or PM me as my sister in law will be taking things to her family and other peeps in need from SL.

These bigger corps mean all well and good I'm sure (lets all hope..there's enough greed in the world) but I think for the common hard working folk like you and I get more fulfillment and a sense of well-being in knowing the good is actually doing just that. When you can see the generousity of your fellow man, woman, and child first hand it is a very special moment indeed. We all give in a way that makes us feel proud. That's just the Canadian way

Well there's no complaint on those numbers!!! I actually don't know for sure about Telus either it was just something I heard...... But it is good to know for sure before donating thanks for the clarification!!

Your point is valid in that there are always the vultures( can't say what I really want to) out in this time of tragedy and great need.
