Skidoo shock rebuild

Thought I’d upload some photos of shock rebuilds for skidoo model. This applied to 2008-2024 for the most part. That said these are the KYB HPG shock or better. I have included exper and c-36 rear.

Overall these shocks are really good I feel. Steel piston and piston head. Ice scrapper is better than a elka in my opinion. 36mm body diameter for all models except KYB-40, which is 44mm. There is a comparison of a 2008 summit x shock to a expert model shock

Problems from factory is there only 70-80% full of fluid. Charge pressures vary from 200-250psi. Fluid is complete garbage and is clapped out at 1000-1500km for a intermediate rider. Advanced/aggressive rider would be a lot less. Whooped out trails, a lot less. Notice the picture of the piston with burnt fluid adhearing to it, not ideal.

A simple brake down, fresh quality fluid, and good charge is what these really need and there good for 2 seasons of aggressive rider in general.

Depends on shock position and rider. But typically 2.5, 5, 7, and 10wt.

Normally I use redline or Amsoil. it is the most linear performance from cold off the truck to warm Summer performance.


Some oils look good on paper but there viscosity’s just don’t work at colder temps. Meaning even though your buying a 5wt it reacts like a 15wt at -10

I need different oil in the shocks on my truck i think. At -40 they were stiff. Lol
