I have a 98 Summit X 670, and wondering how I can widen the ski stance on it. Its WAY to narrow, to tippy. I dont want to lower the sled at all either as its already pretty low. Is there a way? Thanks:d

Get the radius rods and tie rods for a MXZ of the same year, they are wider.

Are you wanting to widen the ski stance because it's too tippy? Is there a sway bar still installed? If not that's likely the issue as opposed to the stance. You could try to find a sway bar to put back in or stiffen up the front suspension to see if that gets you closer to where you want to be.

Theres NO sway bar on the sled, but I still want the stance wider. Having the sway bar off is nice for the powder riding, but as it is right now, the skis fit inside the track marks of any sled I've seen. Seems way to narrow. What are the measurements of some other peoples ski stances on the same sled? :d

According to the service manual the stock ski stance measurement is 37 inches. It would be difficult to deviate much from that without installing aftermarket radius rods and trailing arms. Perhaps if you were to upload a picture of the front end of the sled I could compare to what I have on my 98 X.

You probably won't need the trailing arms, I think they were all the same. Just need the longer raduis rods, shocks and tie rods I think. The MXZ stances were 41".

I got one with a sway bar and one without the one with the sway bar is WAY LESS TIPPY and I can barely tell the difference from one to the other in the powder/side hill.
I'd put my sway bar back on if I had it:(
It did help the tippy when I softened the rear suspension up.(Made it climb better too)

I would try the sway bar IF I had one, but I still think widening the stance would be best. The other sleds I have are wider and are perfect.

With a 41" ski stance on my sled, I disconnected the sway bar about 15mins into the first ride and about an hour after I was home it was in the garbage.

For sidehilling it makes a huge difference IMO, I'm about 210 and I could hardly get it to dig into the hill with the wide stance and sway bar. The added stance seems to multiply the effort it takes to sidehill it, nevermind adding the sway bar into the equation.

I have a 97 summit 670 w 153x2.25 track and stock ski stance , mine measures 38 inch and I disconnected the swaybar before first ride out and fought the tippy feeling for a couple of rides until I put it back on or at least till I learn more balance, my sled also has 5inch bar riser and a 03 rev seat conversion I did and because of the added rider heigth I reinstalled the swaybar.

You could find the suspension rods and shock off a mxz and retain your existing trailing arms, if you just put on the mxz rods with the summit shocks it will set the shocks flatter and not gain much height and make the suspension feel softer cause the shocks aren`t standing up as straight as they should , so get the mxz shocks cause they are longer to match and will stand up straighter alowing the suspension to function better.

The wider stance will make alot of difference with that even if you don`t install the swaybar. (and some mxz sleds have a different way the swaybar mounts out to the trailing arm than the summit ), but will still be harder to layover, even with stock skis. Skis with outer carbides will increase this effort more, I have 6.9 pilot skis and switched the skis left to right to move the outer carbides to the inside to help lay the sled over easier on harder snow conditions.

Good Luck.

I dont know how much you want to pay but the easiest way I know is to put a pair of simmons skis flex skis on it. simmons have 2 wear bars on each ski. This makes your sled feel 4" wider with out really changing the width...Just a thought...

I had a pair of skis on it that had duel ware bars/carbides, and it was VERY difficult to stear. WAY to much arm streghth required. Sold the skis and put on the factory ones. I will just wait now as the snow is gone from around here, actually tring to sell that sled, may not have to worry about it. If I still have it when the snow flys again, I will do some MODS to make it work. Thanks.:d
