Asked a BRP service rep a couple years ago about the shorter life of a mountain sled motor over a flatlander motor and he told me its because we hold the throttle to the bars all day long. Hmmmmm......kinda makes sense. Lol.

oh this is why a boosted Yamaha out lasted all other engines.....we never pin it and hold it! lol but really this does make sence.....time to start installing marine (Sea-Doo) engines in sleds......they are pinned all the time, and allways bouncing off the Rev limiter! do they weight that much more?

I don't think the marine engines rev near as high as the sled engines. This can make a huge difference in engine life. :D:beer:

Enjoy this been a ski doo person since they only had about 12hp. snopro says a rep from BRP. told him its holding the power on thats hurting the motor on mountain sleds. So BRP. sell this as a mountain sleld ,they advertise it flying up a mountain in deep snow with a 2 inch plus paddle track and horse power to burn. So we all must be rideing them WRONG! We need to be reschooled on what we are doing wrong? Then they will last like a _______???

Really......30-40 000 miles on a flat lander sled....... 2 or 4 stroke? the mountains are that hard on our sleds......some one should build a "mountain" engine that is more durable.....it might weight a LOT more but 30-40 000 miles......heck 20 000 would be great.......oh wait.......Yamy does! lol sorry had to say it! lol

LOL I can build my 800r every year for the price difference to a turbo sled. They are fun to ride if you have the cash but when they are stuck you need a whole bunch of FAT kids on the bunjie to get them out:beer:

My jet ski 800sxr(2 stroke 800) was stuck at 8250 rpm all day every day and I did the top end more often then my sled. As well it had a pipe/head/reeds/bigger carbs/ign and was nowhere near 160-170 hp. closer to 110-120hp It was alot easier to tow:(
