Kingcat, I will second the info kfaz123 is giving. Totally mirrors my experience. Iv got a 2014 tss centre mount. First 1000km I had issues but looking back I totally believe it was all my own fault as I screwed with clutching. When machine was new, I rode pine pass Up north, not sicamous. Even with cooler temps and little lower elevation, I couldn’t get machine to get up to optimum rpm so I would drop pin weight. But in reality I was probably hitting rev limiter. Caused lots of backfiringK and I took out a motor at 800 km. Got clutching figured out. Iv got the tss Ramps, a spring from dalton (something like kfaz123 has 160/360, and about 23 gram pin weight. Set up can be sluggish on bottom end. I had not heard the the multi weight arms but makes total sense. My machine now has over 6000 km so current motor has over 5000 km on it with original pistons, reeds, and O2 sensor. Run 100% av gas. I still have the tss boost box and run 30% boost duty which translates to about 6 pds boost. If I ever need the sled to go on a local neibors hood Gallup I have a whole other clutch that I throw on. I believe I have about 27 grams pin weight in that one!!
Stock reeds? I had such issues with reeds due to the popping - stockers and the cage mangled - new stock cages with carbons f**kin mangled - turbo force turbo reeds now - cages bend in the middle - I just picked up the 160/320 spring yesterday - I tried another mod with the reeds - it's better now for not blowing them apart but they restrict boost too much and it was pressuring up the charge tube too much and pushing it off the turbo - I'm gonna go back to stock head I think - new stock cages with turbo force turbo reeds maybe flip em over or something - afd fury 99 mixed 50/50 with 91/94 - get the thunder arms - 160/320 spring etc etc in the primary and do some R&D and probably take the primary on/off one day about 6-12 times - I wanna try staying 2.54 ratio - because when I'm in the deep snow and she's pushing 8 lbs it leaves 850 turbo's behind - kanedog knows all about that 2.54 ratio wherever he is -

Is this thing as big of PITA as it sounds like?
Do you ever get some good days in, or mostly just fixing it?

trying to decide between factory boost, or aftermarket.

Lol oh ya I've had lots of trips out of her - it loves to do the day 5 catastrophic failure - but luckily it's never too serious - 5000kms and still original motor with 2nd top end - I'm not sure if your aware of the fact that the BARO comes out of the ECU on an 800 etec - it's not as easy to hack the computer to run your secondary injector control like the 850 - you know how right at the very beginning of the gen 4 there was " boost injectors" ya that means that doo has been f*kin with a turbo on that hoor from day 1 of the gen 4 - it's ALOT more of a turbo ready machine compared to an 800 - so back to an 800 it's a very difficult machine to clutch with the factory Tra 7 due to the lack of adjustability without replacing the entire insides with aftermarket parts - until u get help from others with the same setup and ride in the mountains - it can be tricky to tune also - I had issues with 02 sensor from day 1 with av gas - also bottom end issues with av - it's also a centre mount - it's just a different animal -the number of people that got a TSS centre mount 100% dialed in on an 800etec is very low - a side mount is a different story all together compared to this - fingers crossed I get my clutching figured out and I'll be at eagles in Dec/Jan destroying my buddies BD 850 sidekick - but who knows he contacted BD the other day and has all these updates and sh*t coming so I'm a bit worried I'm gonna get left behind now

Ok that's good to hear, thanks. Most clutch's require aftermarket parts to adjust no?

Should help a lot knowing what clutch you have now at least!

Tra 3 or Tra 7 - they take all the same parts - I've just been calling mine a 3 - in the end as long as the parts work in it that's all that matters - k now to the aftermarket parts thing - take for instance the clutch on my 04 kingcat - very very simple to adjust because the arm and the ramp and the weight is all built into 1 piece of metal -all u need is Dalton adjustable arms and away you go - u adjust your mid by getting the profile of arm u want to succeed - now for a Tra 3 or a 7 your arms have rollers and arms and the arms have to be curved abit unlike prior TRA's and pins and pin weights and ramps and a camber bolt for the quick clickers - hind sight is 20 / 20 - but knowing now I wish I woulda put the Polaris primary on right outta the gates - or some other primary that isn't a TRA - especially so I don't have pull the bastard apart everytime I need to adjust something besides a clicker

I can't run it - due to my turbo setup - I turned the rubber mount under my pipe to charcoal and melted the red cover off of my starter and turned my hood and headlight into playdoh and burnt my rogies and snausages - it works for other kits tho - my buddies 850 Silber loves it - runs the best it ever has on it

Ok thanks, I'm thinking about getting a turbo Polaris anyways.

So comes factory with the good clutch I guess.

Also hence the reason skidoo went to a pdrive clutch on the gen4 - probably because they were playing with a turbo on the gen 4 from day 1 and realized the TRA is a horrible clutch for a turbo

Lol that would be like applying the brakes - ain't nobody got time for that - ask anyone that knows me - I'm a sucker for punishment - took me a while to get the kingcat dialed too - but I got it there - it can get a little satisfying when the dinosaur out performs the new sleds - might handle like a rock lol - but out perform - ahhh yessir!!!

I want to turbo the old 19 but probably wait for the release in another few months... they just keep getting better!

Lol nope she's carbed 900 with twin D twin pipes on it - 3" track 162 - Cr racing tunnel and skid - she climbs trees

so what took time to figure out? I rode on of them big bastard in 04, figured out pretty quick they had power but drove like a 3 ton truck...

An open style clutch like a cat primary or a Polaris primary or a doo pdrive - will be easier to adjust any way shape and form compared to a closed style primary like a TRA - it doesn't need to be removed to adjust arm weight - a TRA does - not hard to remove - but would be better if it didn't have to be removed

Ok thanks. I thought you had to open up a pdrive too.
