This guy makes heavy duty recoils. Doo Recoils

Thats wicked! However I left the guts of my recoil in Invermere thinking I didn't need them. *sigh* If he sold complete I'd buy it. I fired him an email, maybe he'll make one up for me.

Ya I'll try him. He hasn't been the best on prices when I've called him in the past. Maybe this time we'll see.

Landon doesn't have any, Dusty's got a decent price on used and didn't call the Armstrong guy. Looking around to see if my friends have any kicking around. *sigh*

the rope around the primary is the cheapest, just don't wrap around your hand. we don't use the rope but a flat strap(6ft+) from princess auto, winds around primary tight and seems to work good.

I saw your video,,, nice engine job

but try not to let it go flying back at the sled,,,

I always pull out 6inch until compression,, nice medium strength pull but not ALL the way out,,, then return it by hand dont let it fling

biggest thing DONT PULL OUT TOO FAR.... had a buddy do that to mine
damn things,, they can be fixed as well...

I can't believe no one turned that post into something much worse...:d

Oh man...

I think the 1000 RT recoils fit and they have a metal pawl. may have to buy the whole assembly, but maybe it will be the last one....

Had a shop rebuild mine, lasted 2 pulls. Went to the dealership and they said "oh you can fix them, but it wont last as they are junk. Better off to just buy a new one." The RT recoil will work too.

i've had that plastic tit wear out and the round metal clip would not stay on ,so i poped it on then drilled 4 holes and ran 2 finishing nails in them ,had to cut the ends of the nails off a little but have never had an issue with it since.i'd take a pic but then i would have to take it off.

nothing wrong with the doo recoil should get 2500-3500 miles out of it. thts typically what we get before they need to be replaced. maybe they dont last as long as the cat one but they sure are alot nicer to pull over thats forsure. and they weigh virtually nothing. ill take the weight savings and easy pull at a cost of 180$ every couple seasons. the reason they are not made from metal is because the shavings would get into your pickup coils and stator. i still wouldnt use the one off the rt1000. they are super easy to access so inspect them once in a while. mine ate itself at 2700 miles last weekend. pulled one out of the trailer and was on the snow again the next morning.

to keep your recoil in good shape there is preventative maintenance that needs to be done.

1. replace the pawl every season. 8$ worth of parts and 15 minutes of work.

2. clean and regrease

3. add foil tape.

4. only pull the rope once you pull it out enough that you feel it grab. yanking ont he recoil full bore right out of the housing is a sure way to destroy it in a hurry.

good thread and some good tips in here.

the other beauty thing about doo recoils is they are the same from 1999-2012. and so are all the internals
