Well, I jumped the gun. I did a little search and TKI's YouTube answered this question here:

Has anyone broken a drive shaft on a G5? If its that big of a problem one would think they would be grenade-ing all over the mountain. Even the POS chain and gears held up on 99% of the G5s.

Couple pics floating around on the internet of broken driveshafts. Problem is nobody can truthfully say how many failed and how many didn’t to get an accurate picture of how big the problem was. All we have to go off is people opinions and BRP’s response to how they handled it this year.

You have a guy that is trying to put food on his table saying wobbly driveshaft is bad it’s the next weakest link and now BRP’s oil is no good Meanwhile you have a team of engineers backed by billion dollar company telling BRP that holds all the liability in the matter to expand this driveshaft to other models and that a gear and chain upgrade is all it needs.

Them engineers kept adding things till your wobbly clutch worked, pretty sure they will get your wobbly driveshaft sorted out as well🤔🤪

You think it was the engineers decision to run standard chain and gears? Or the bean counters when parts were on short supply?

I think that was supply chain, but not talking about chains and gears…. the wobbly clutch and driveshaft might be engineering?

Just to clarify, the wobbly clutch was pretty smart, they just had to make the belts stand up… be interesting to see what they do about driveshaft.. for what it’s worth, I can’t see how it can if its not running 100% true?.

To be fair, guys have been breaking driveshafts for years. All brands and styles. I broke one, my son broke one etc. and these were 1 piece driveshafts. Most guys will never have the problem but those that ride hard and want to keep their sleds for more than a season might want it at its best. The Doo 2 piece drive shaft has assembly advantages but if there is any slop there will be wear and there's more of a chance that the tunnel could spread apart or flex more in that area. I was a distributor for TKI for several years and I trust his analysis and solutions. His first customers are professional riders that find the weakness in designs, often the season before the public even sees the latest sled model. He has those riders test his fixes before he releases his products to the public. His fix will improve the design but you need to ask yourself, "Do I ride hard? Will I keep this sled for a long time? and Am I terribly worried about it failing in the back-country?" If honest, these will be answered "No" by most guys on this forum.

be interesting to see what they do about driveshaft..
What they do with the driveshaft? They did nothing they left it the same and put it out again.
Think that says enough about their confidence in it.

for what it’s worth, I can’t see how it can if it’s not running 100% true?.
Skidoo has all the liability, money and reputation on the line. I would think just perhaps that they looked into the wobbly driveshaft and concluded it’s a non issue. But maybe they overlooked it and you found a huge gap…

Well you could be right.
Since the G4 has come out consumers found the thin pot metal bulkhead, belt eating clutch (always were belt eaters). T-motion - flex edge, three motor mounts (that was just F'n laughable) and i think the wobble clutch are all gone and brought to light by consumers.
This one will also be gone soon enough, tossed out like all the other stail doo-laid marvels.
Doo has cleaned up their "engineering catastrophies" with almost no recalls.
Why have recalls when you can screw the consumer to test.
Finally Doo has a sled that would likely handle as good as a Poo if it wasn't the fattest one on the snow.
Doo is dam lucky the have a solid turbo motor/850 to carry them past their dark history.
Doolaiders cant remember back past one model cycle so ya the new wobbling invention will be short lived as they wear in - if past history has any say in it.
Man are they lucky they have a solid motor, and SHOT!
Couple more tweaks I might try one again, but lets not talk BS.
Dooers should be able to try beat this up till the new year.

Making sled parts is Toms hobby side of his business. He runs a fully functioning CNC machine shop reverse engineering parts, has government contracts etc.

The best part of owning a sled is the owner can do, or not do, whatever they want to it. The two piece shaft is not a good idea, and doo must of changed the design, or put a stronger front suspension shaft in the skid to prevent that from breaking.
If someone believes that an engineer has never messed up and produced something thats a bad Idea that failed miserably. Then they are mistaken, has anyone ever seen a dry fit spline actually have good service life, I can’t say that I have.
At least doo put a much stronger bottom sprocket on, it will take some misalignment, unlike the bottom sprocket they used for years.

Need snow thats for sure

I kinda wonder if Doo really give a S$%t about any mistakes? They have dominated sales in western Canada since 2017 with the wobbly clutch, T-motion, flex edge, short tunnel, oh and the turbo????? Like other than the fringe group of haters that ride Polaris because their girlfriends find them easier to ride, people really seem to be buying a lot of them. :skidoo:
