SIP Panels

Anybody out there build anything using SIP panels?. Curious how it works and how it compares cost wise to conventional stick construction. Also if anyone knows if they’re available in 14 or 16 foot lengths for a shop.

Im building my current house with them but not sure on the exact cost difference cause it was built into our complete house package from Precision Craft. It is more expensive though in general, my house is SIP panels but my garage/shop (2300sqft) is 2x6 with spray foam insulation and it was a fair amount cheaper to go that route. When comparing companies if you do go that route be sure to make sure you are getting the same product. My panels come cut for each exact location, window and doors all cut and frames, electrical chases,... Some you still need to do a certain amount of stick framing with their panels, some are just standard sizes and lengths, some no cutouts or chases. Precision Craft offers panels up to 8' wide and 24' long, their panels are made by Insulspan, so could check them out.

We were going to build with magpro, but my builder was significantly cheaper with 2x6 and 4" of closed cell spray foam. I still want to try sip panels, maybe a small cabin later in life

We have used Greensmart from Dawson Creek on many school builds.
Awsome quality.
Not sure if they still in business.

I haven't built with SIPS but have done a fair bit of checking into it. Kind of surprising to me that stick frame and spray on polyurethane is cheaper. When I get around to building I will definitely be checking the two to compare. Seems to me I would use staggered 2X4 24 inches in center (making them 12 inches apart) so that there is a thermal break.

We built our house and garage out of 6'' sip panels not sure of cost difference but in 3 days you have a complete insulated outer envelope ready for gyproc,doors,windows and electrical. Of coarse have to put roof on first, one thing with sip panels they are warm but do not stop sound, all cutouts where perfecty matched and engineered to house plans.

Good point, that's the plus of SIP panels that you have your envelope up a lot faster than traditional framing. You doing the build yourself not a big deal but if you're paying for labor the costs adds up.
