Thinking on going this weekend, anyone know how the road in is and how far up they are staging. Just debating on what trailer to bring.

There is a turnaround at 30 with parking on the shoulder of the road. Bring a radio in all my years of riding there I've never seen the road as busy as I did yesterday. I think there was half a dozen logging trucks and service equipment coming down yesterday on our way up.

You need a radio every day. You call out km markers on your way up (and listen for others heading the opposite direction) in order to prevent collisions. The idea is that you'll have enough time to pull over to let them by as they come around the corner. Biggest bumper has right of way.

Went there today and honestly for the amount of traffic was shocked that I didn’t hear more. Had my radio and was wondering if it was working as most people weren’t calling km’s in. Turn around was a **** show think we should let people no who’s going in and who’s going out after 27km just my opinion. Road was good though

All kms don't need to be called, must call kms are marked. Otherwise too much chatter. See the other radio thread for protocols.

Emailed Sled Golden and they said if you do not have a radio that its not a big deal as the trail pass booth will radio up for you or you can follow someone with a radio

If your entering an active haul road and you dont have a radio, the best thing to do is wait at the start of the road for a logging truck or pickup with a radio and piggy back in behind them. Anybody who uses the road regularly will appreciate this and will look after you.

If you just run in blindly and hope for the best your not only risking your life, but the life of those who are working on that road.

Not always true. We have radios and were following a trucker 2 years ago and he wasn't having any of that, didn't show us any love in the pull outs, gave us no room and kept us hanging out the back end so we had to park on the snowbank (effectively trying to discourage us as much as possible LOL - and I don't blame him, he's got a family to feed and he wasn't our babysitter). Even called us "suicide sledders" on the radio in reference to trying to come up the road. He hammered it and ditched us after about 5 kms, we wisely turned around because it was just too sketchy and knew it was going to be pins and needles on every corner. Most drivers are pretty good and if you are lucky you can chat to a driver if they are waiting in a pull out near the start. Find out how many trucks are hauling and how far etc etc and if there's a lot of trucks moving - just go elsewhere, you're impacting their business by slowing them down and not helping our reputation. From the safety side - if its you or them in the ditch, well you're gonna lose against a loaded semi every time. HAHA

Haven't been up to Silent Pass in a while. With parking at the 30km mark how is it for turning around a big trailer? Reading on the website looks like there must be a turnaround close to that 30km mark, but figured a guy better make sure before heading out there.

Turn around was good. Should be able to turn it no problem. As long as people keep the turn clear when parking
