Its 45k off the highway down a logging road with active logging. Radio is a must. Freq is posted on a sign. Then another 12k to alpine. Wicked area, lots of diff areas to check out. would recommend going with someone that knows the area. Not sure on conditions at the moment. Best to check in the silent thread.

Silent pass is a decent ride.... Long ride in... Big area and has new warmup shack. Watch for the "out of bounds" areas -- park area. Usually spectacular snow conditions throughout the winter.....

There is no warming shack up there....

Mcmurdo is a rentable cabin. Forestry has it zoned so that unless you have rented the hut then it is illegal to snowmobile to it.

Formal Government Objectives: "Manage the McMurdo Cabin recreation site for a forested, semi primitive non-motorized recreation experience. The cabin will be maintained; the natural vegetation will be conserved. Opportunities for cabin accommodation to support ski touring, hiking, and mountaineering will be available at the site. Cabin reservations required. The site will be managed for a semi-priimitive non-motorized experience with semi-primitive motorized access allowable during winter months to facilitate overnight use only."

Very likely. But its not a sledders warm up hut as most think, as noted above, unless you have it rented, its illegal to sled the last 500 yrds through the meadow to get to it. You can go warm up, just don't sled to the front door.

wont be warming up much without the wood shed lock combo....its been locked the last few years due to sledders/quaders using it for day use and burning all the wood.

You forget to mention the A-holes that think they should leave there unwanted food and garbage behind.
