I was wondering about shortening up the seat on my m7. I seen somebodies profile picture on here with it done and i was wondering if there is a certain way?
I prefer this seat to the '10 m seat. The lower seat is much easier to hop over and swing a leg around. This seat weighs 8 lbs. Within 3 lbs of a boss seat. I don't have any pics of the process, but if your sorta of handy its really not that hard. I just overlapped the 2 ends of the plastic frame and riveted them together. Cut your foam at a 45 degree angle to increase surface area to glue together.
Agreed just buy the new m series seat, probably way easier, niner is probably the only guy I have ever heard say they prefer the old m seat to the new one. Lower is a little nicer to swing a leg over but other than that I find it really sucks compared to the new ones, I ecspecially like the new m seat while coming back down after a climb, has a really nice angle to it and also like the tons of storage in the back of it
Well if I'm the only guy that likes a low , short seat then skinz wasted their time devolping their new boondocking seat. There's one other sledder forsure that likes a lower seat, some guy named burandt , hes an above average rider from what I've seen. I have had tons of guys pm on how to do this. Why spend $500 on a aftermarket seat if you don't have too?
I never said its better than every seat out there, I said not many people think the old one is better than the new one. I never said the new high seat is better than every low one, but just going by numbers, most people prefer the new to the old, thats all I was saying. A buddy of mine modded his old seat to be shorter like yours and ya he did like it for a bit until it started to come apart where he fastened it together, then duck tape was used for a bit until he eventually just went and bought one, at first he didn't like the new higher style but after he got used to it he loved it
I didn't take any pics, but it really isn't very difficult. Once you start it really falls together. I've done 2 now and my second turned out better than the first. Just leave lots of plastic to overlap each other to rivet.
