Has anyone taken the road from Barriere to Scotch Creek in the winter? It looks like it would cut a lot of the travel distance off instead of going through Kamloops.
Some of it is paved according to google maps but it also looks like some gravel...
Any input would be great...we are planning on going through on March 13

Cuts off 30- 40 min depending on how you drive. 18km of gravel from the Adam's lake Mill to the end of Agate bay rd. Active haul road for logging trucks so you have to be cautious, and 3 km of narrow gravel. Thst being said it is quite scenic. Nice views of Adam's lake. I prefer it over going through kamloops. Generally maintained not bad

i took it in February a few years back. Make sure you have a radio. Seems like it would be plowed all the time. Road pops out right at the mill scale.

Never used a radio on it. Lots of pullouts. Narrow part is in the middle and if they are hauling you can follow behind one of need be. Road accesses a provincial park and there is a fair number of people using that section. I'm not sure if it's an fsr or not. Use caution and you will be fine

I logged and built road out there so I've travelled that road thousands of times and yes you can do it without a radio, but I wouldn't! Have you ever come around a corner and met a loaded logging truck?? You'll shyt yourself and there are tight spots where passing isn't possible, not to mention being 500 ft above the lake. You'll also find your not very popular with the truckers for not having communications and when its busy you can run into 5 trucks in 5kms

Looks like channel rr21 is used in that area...we have a fsr radio...we might be coming through in the dark and pulling an enclosed trailer...we might just be best taking the road known...we will decide that day...
Cheers!

If you have a radio then go for it!Make sure your radio works and call your kms accordingly Its quite a neat drive and if your coming home at night that will cut down on logging traffic as most loads are hauled earlier in the day when road is still frozen.

It's the best maintained FSR I've ever driven, don't be afraid of it. There is lots of non radio controlled traffic on the road but I prefer to travel it with a radio. As said only 18km is gravel the rest is paved from Squilax to Interfor mill and then from Agate Bay to Barriere.
