If you have not Back filled yet you could put 2” styrofoam sm on the outside .
Or glue it to the inside but you have to also glue on drywall cuse it burns easy.
Next best is just frame wall and insulated

I would strap the concrete wall with either 2 1/2(inch off the wall) or 3 5/8 25g steel stud and 2lbs spray foam. Either way you'll get a R20 with vapor barrier.

That will never absorb water from inside or out. Always be an R20 and then finish it how you want??? Drywall, plywood, puck board, FRP, etc.....

BASF 2lbs spray foam creates it's own vapor barrier within a 1/2 inch. So you could do whatever thickness, but sealing the concrete would be a help and a start.

Your in Camrose so T&L insulation can spray it. If your on a budget and do-it-yourself guy then use SM.

I'd frame it and spray it, too.

As far as the geothermal talk, if you have access to gas, don't bother. The only time it even remotely makes sense is in a more temperate part of the world and nat. gas service isn't available or cost prohibitive. Otherwise your supplemental heat is electric and you're going to find out just how bad a power bill can hurt.

What you mean a solar panel on the roof or a wind mill outside won't do jack sh!t… haha. Of coarse if you would have voted right things would have been way better. So how much heat do you lose on bare concrete? Turns out it has more effect than insulation in the roof.

I don't like using steel in outside walls because of thermal bridging but it is easy to screw on the drywall . You can use these fastners if you don't want to use steel
