Hey everyone...curious as to what you're being told on the driveshaft update on 08 xp's... I sold my '08 as I was concerned with all the "problems" and have replaced with an 09 154x...anyways, the guy I sold it too is still waiting on a replacement shaft, and so are anothe r couple of friends..last I called the dealership I was told they weren't on the "list", even though they had all called a couple of weeks earlier to see when they could have them replaced, and the dealer said they would call them when they came in...so either way they weren't on the "list", so I politely asked if they could be put on the "list"...meanwhile the recall letter says not to ride the sled as it is "unsafe" *%@? Once again I called the dealer again a couple of days ago and he said the driveshafts are still on backorder...has only rec'd 30 out of over a 100+machines waiting..is Bombardier losing it??? I'm on my 4th new machine in as many years and am losing faith in them...are others getting the same "cold shoulder"? Why should the customer have to repeatedly call the dealer and remind them that they need to have a recall done "and please don't forget me"? :rant:

I don't ride Skidoo but have friends who do. They have been told that it takes time to get these driveshafts because there is such a backlog. To top it off BRP announced last week they are laying a bunch of workers off. That won't help matters either. The 800 is probably the most popular sled being bought and they all have this problem. I doubt that bitching to the dealer will do a lot of good. On the other hand I don't understand why your friends have to call twice to get on the "list". Maybe it's time to change dealer.
You obviously haven't lost too much faith in them if you buy Skidoo every year.:)

Dealer replaced mine in 1 week, also replace the wiring harness, updated to the new belt, and also the hand warmers, very happy with riverside, the also said that they go in alphabetical order so if your last name begins with a v you may have to wait a looooong time.

I haven't "bitched" at the dealer,I guess it would just be nice if they were a little "proactive", but I know they're understaffed, and it's BRP that has had a year` to deal with it,I 'm sure as a dealer it has to be frustrating. However it really sucks if you have a 13000 sled that you can't ride(shouldn't) when we finally have snow! I wonder how many people would be pissed if they couldn't ride their quad, or drive their boat for months because there was a defect on every one built that year, and no parts?? In a 3-4 month season...and yeah I'm a sucker, I keep buying their "stuff"... I can't help it, my wife says I have a sickness..I think she calls it "mid life crisis":Vette:

Mines been done since early November, no problems and did the ECM reflash as well.

Pick mine up tomorrow from Ecko marine in Alberta Beach.Took seven weeks,but it is finally done...good luck to all the rest of the guys waiting...Cheers

This is not right at all. I dont ride a ski doo but I do know they are a great machine, BPR should respect the warranty and have all these 08's fixed ASAP. If i was an owner i would take the shaft out and get it welded knowing it's not the right anwser but at least the sled would be safe.

The dealer told me that BRP originally didn't acknowledge that there was even a problem, till a guy broke his femur when his driveshaft broke,then they decided it should be dealt with....:nono:

Silver Fox if you are dealing with Turple Bros. in Red deer good friggen luck getting in there to get the driveshaft work done I have buddy who were put on the "list" as they say months ago and they are still waiting. Definatly take it to another dealer for your work.

Mines all done and I had no problems getting it done at Ecko Marine. If your that concerned and your missing out on rides just weld the thing and giver. Its a real simple job (2 beers). Ya Ya Ya I know its not the welding of the drive shaft but the azz job your getting from BRP...BUT at the end of the day its all about getting on your sled and putting a smile on your face right :d Cheerz

This problem has been well known to the Folks at BRP since last November? you'd think that in 13 months they would be able to have their supplier build and provide to BRP the "new" replacement D shafts a long time ago. It's pretty sad that you guys have to sit around and wait while you listen to a bunch of excusses from dealers and BRP them selves.

Hope all those elussive drive shafts show up soon so you guys can get out and ride. I'd just weld mine as stated above... then send BRP the bill. :confused::d

Did'nt this same sort of senario happen with the drive belts?

Weld it and ride it (takes maybe one hour)......then take it in the spring after the riding season for the shaft. Probably use some new chain case oil by then.....no worries....

My situation. This is my first sled. I bought a 2008 Summit X 163 used this summer when I lived up north (Sled's from Drayton Area). Ever since I read on here back in Sept about the recall I went every week to try to get on the list at Turple Brothers. They always said no problem come back in a week and check in again. So I did until they finally got them. So I go to book an appointment and they ask if I bought the sled there. It was purchased near Drayton Valley. So they say no deal that they are only looking after their own customers. Now I have moved into the office and am living in Calgary. Same situation for all the dealers I have called including the Calgary ones. Only looking after their own customers. The dealer it originally came from is no longer a dealer?! So what am I suppose to do?! Unbelievable service I think. To make it worse my oil tank is leaking like crazy (supposedly a warranty issue which they will fix) but if I take the sled in they will not release it until they do the drive shaft, which they won't do until the last ones are done because it's not originally purchased there! Not even sure why BRP offers a warranty, why not just be honest and say it doesn't exist! As I said this is my first sled, I am a younger guy... just getting into the sport.. like spending money on this type of thing, you might think a dealer would like to build a relationship. Based on the dealers in AB this will more than likely be my first and last Ski-doo. :confused:

That being said I have to give credit to the dealer in Golden. Amazing service, even stayed late on a Saturday to help us fix a problem!

The dealer that your referring to that no longer looks after BRP is West Country Leisure in Buck Lake Ab.. If you call and talk to Bob there he will refer you to the dealer that took over his franchise in Drayton Valley and I'm sure they will help you out.
If you search the forums over on DOOTALK.COM you will find excellent advise along with detailed instructions on how to weld your existing drive shaft. The shaft does not have to be removed to weld it and with the instructions on hand it will not even take a welding shop 30 minutes to doo the repair for you. OR your third option is to just let the thing collect dust over the season in your garage.
I welded mine the minute I even heard there was going to be a problem with them back in December 2007 and rode the bag RIGHT off it all last season with no problems. I think the repair costed me less than a half a tank of fuel for the unit. Good Luck :beer:

No it does not void the warranty. They will still cover the drive shaft and any incurring damages due to the failure. After all it was BRP themselves that publicly announced that the drive shaft be welded as a fix until something more permanent could be done. There is a copy of this bulletin somewhere over on dootalk. I know of a few guy's that are refusing to get their drive shafts replaced with the new ones due to the fact that the new BRP drive shaft is a lot heavier than original one and they think that the welded drive shaft is as or more reliable than the new one. I would imagine that these guy's that flat out refused the new shaft will be getting the "shaft" if ever they needed warranty in the future.

no, they will still honor the warranty (according to my dealer). he knows mine is welded, got the word today that they have more in stock now too. along with my black side panels....:d

and the left side belly pan plastic was quite reasonable, 30 bucks for the panel and rivets....whoda thunk it.

I've been waiting for 7 weeks from Martin with no possibility for repair until mid January. Purchased a new sled every year for the last 5 years; The 08 XP was the first Skidoo and will be the last. It seems once they get your money, the big dealers don't care. Bought a new M1000 Sno Pro Cat and love it. XP sits in the shop and I will never ride it again.

Got tired of waiting so I got Specialty sleds to re-grind and re-weld it and put the jack shaft conversion with an 06 secondary. I don't blow belts anymore and don't have to use the $150 belts.

Has anyone had any luck getting warrenty on the rear sag issuie. My bro's 163 is in fially at TB in RD for the shaft. I have read somwere guy's were getting warenty on the shock and springs.
