Setting up a 136" Backcountry for mountains

I know, I know... This is not the ideal machine for mountain riding, but it's a compromise of a machine for the rest of my riding.

Heading to the mountains for the very first time. I will be riding a brand new 2010 Renegade Backcountry X (136" w/1.75" lugs).

I'm looking for some advice on setup to make the most of the machine for an upcoming trip to Revy.

You've got a great sled, but in this bottomless early season snow it will be tougher if its deep, when it sets up you will have a blast

I would just take some pressure off the front via the limiter strap and if you have any gears kicking around maybe drop a tooth from stock, other than that, ride it. 136s were long tracks at one time

im 5'8ish and use the stock 8'riser on the summit sleds, not sure on the backcountry ? You will want to stand and be able to touch ur bars without ur but sticking out (best way i can explain it...lol)

Thats what I started on for track length, with a steel tunnel, steel skis and a fibreglass hood. Just watch were you go, take some Robaxacit with you and have some fun.

the backcountry x has 21/45 gearing, no need to change it.

Or you can put a 141x2.25x15 3.00pitch track. Get some 9" wheels and axle and giver.

do you have mountain skis on that backcountry? if not you may want to consider buying a set. they will help keep the front end up. you got a CAN on it yet? it will save you some weight and add a bit of top end performance.

Would they not be pilot 6.9's?

Not sure what the skis are, whatever came stock on the backcountry. Wider than the ones my Polaris 800 Dragon 136"...

It comes with mountain ski on it already.. you wont have to change a thing on it to ride it in the mountains.. i rode mine all over bc last year..

Thanks to all for the advice. Just got back last night. Rode with a great bunch of guys that were a blast to ride with. We rode Revelstoke, Blue Lake and Owls Head.

The 136" was a challenge with no real base and very low skill! Tried a 163" Summit and a M8. Hated both of them. They ruined my day. I didn't want to get back on mine

I'm hooked. Time to sell the 2008 Dragon and give my wife the Backcountry I think.

Now will it be a 163" or 154" Summit for me...

Just make it comfortable for you and how you ride. Just pick your track smart in the deep. I always wanted to go back to a 136 and put a 2.5 lug track on it. They were more fun to ride.

Just made the plunge on a 2011 163 'X'. It's my brother in law's fault. I was happy trail riding until he took me to the mountains!!

Time to get rid of the two Polaris sleds now... Wife gets to have the Backcountry X.
