My girlfriend is new to sledding. She grew up riding a dirt bike and the big chrome later. She is a very accomplished and confident motorcycle rider. Scary actually. I think she will take to mountain sledding quite easily but we have not bought her a sled yet. Got it narrowed down to 2006 M7 141, 2007 RMK 600 155, and a 2008 RMK 700 155. All low miles sleds. I ride a 2010 SKIDOO Summit 800 163 and it is too much sled for her to throw around and have ridden my buddies 2007 M7 and I can throw it around so easily its ridiculous and am leaning towards the M7 for her. I have heard these mid to late M series sleds are the easiest handling for women riders but have a buddy who is a Polaris mechanic so the obvious advantage to buying a Polaris is him helping out with problems should they arise.
I appreciate brand loyalty but am not generally swayed by it and am open to thoughts. Any input would be gladly appreciated. Thanks!!!!!!!!!

There's no replacement for technology,,, I went from a 2005iq chassis to a 2011 arctic cat crossfire and I was in heaven, then i got a 2012 pro rmk and the cat suddenly felt like a tank,,,we have had them both (cat and pro) in the mountains, and both worked good, but the cat could use a bigger track,,,,oh and it's for sale, just to throw that plug out there,,

Definately the 700 155.
Have two of them for wife and daughter and night and day from the 600 144's we had.
Makes a good back up for yourself as well.

My 15 year old loves her 2010 600 Etech 154. It has ridiculous flotation with the 154 and is an awesome back up sled for dad. After riding an 800 Pro RMK - that would be a great sled as well. Greg

I've always said that the Polaris IQ chassis is truly a woman's sled. I ride a 07 M1000 and have riden the 700 RMK of the same vintage and have found that the RMK was easier to flick around. You have to keep in mind that the M1000 was a 162 and the RMK was a 155. I have also ridden a buddies RMK 600 and found it to be quite impressive. Either of the choices you have will make a good sled for your GF

rmk 700 gets my vote purely for the length of track of your options, reverse, and the poo 700 is a good sled for anyone, my buddies gf has one and he says he even like riding it, chassis is very similar to the m series, the m1000 is a lot heaver than an m7 so not really comparable, but the extra track and reverse will save YOUR back I promise, experience she has will help, but I can guarantee you will be doing a lot of digging at first and I can't wait to hear the reaction when you try and roll her sled out of a stuck the first time, maybe wear your helmet cam and post it for us all to laugh:)

All the sleds you have mentioned would be good choices for your girlfriend. One bad thing about the 07/08 Polaris IQ chassis sleds is the joke of a front bumper. It is a piece of plastic screwed to more plastic, you should add another couple hundred bucks to the purchase price to buy an after market one, as your girlfriend might bump in to stuff as a new rider!!!

You wont go wrong w any of those choices. M7 if you didnt have a polaris mechanic buddy. Suzuki makes an awesome engine, the m7 was almost bulletproof

I got my girlfriend a M7 162 and she loves it! I got her a 07 600 switchback 144 first and what a mistake! She couldn't ride that thing in the mountains. Then got her the M7 and now it goes anywhere. She can side hill it easy and carve easy to. M7 is my vote.

Comparing apples to oranges there, the Switchback has a wide ski stance and is designed for a mix of trail and off trail riding, where as the M7 is a mountain sled. No diss-respect to the M7 but if you let her try an RMK 700 155" she might make a different choice.

I here what you are saying. I was just saying if your are going to be buying a sled for the mountains don't cheap out like I did. I guess I should explain my self better. I used to ride a 800 Dragon and love the ride of that chassis!

I don't think you'll go wrong with either the RMK or the M7. Both are nimble and quite capable. I'd try and rent / borrow a few different sleds and let her decide. Another one to consider in the mix would be the Summit 600 HO - my wife had an 04 Rev with the X package, and it was a sweet sled - turned on a dime and had wicked trackspeed for a 600. More rider forward then either the IQ or the M-chassis, so she may feel more comfortable on it. The 600 ho was no slouch in the power department, and my wfey's sled climbed out of more then a few bowls that gave other riders on bigger iron fits. That said, the Suzuki motor in the M7 is bulletproof, and the 700 liberty twin in the RMK has a good track record too. It boils down to her, and it should be her decision - she'll be happier with you in the long run.
