Although I really enjoyed the previous film, it was geared to a younger sledding audience. I would like to see a compilation of shorter vids.

If you are going for a YouTube thing, then I would suggest a series of shorter vids. People tend to get bored on YouTube with longer videos and just stop watching half way through. 5-10 min segments work. Do a few years of that and see where it goes.
As far as music goes, there are a lot of bands out there that I'm sure would love to get some sort of exposure. If you check out open mic nights, or know people with bands, ask them if they would mind their music being used in a video. Lots of garage bands have the tools to record their own stuff now though.
That's a possibility, i'm not into the bar scene, so i dont really know any bands, but open to anyone's suggestions of local bands/friends anything really, as long as it's not a cover/copy written.
I really like the documentary type films. Like natural frequency.
I like that video, that is a good guide, but i found the interviews/ non sledding parts to be a little lengthy. I would have tried to cut in sledding in and out of the interviews to keep the viewers interest.
Sounds like a great idea! Let me know if you come to Revelstoke:beer:
So far my plan is Fernie, and possibly Golden and Revelstoke, depending how my funds go over the winter, work depends on the amount of snow we get.

That's a good question, i will have to try and get a poll going to see what the majority of the people want. Episodes or a short film.

Made a poll myself on my lame little website haha.

Can't see the site on my iPad. My vote is for shorter episodes. It takes a lot of work to produce a longer video. Short episodes would also keep people coming back and looking forward to the next one if they're done well enough. I used to check out sledshots out of golden quite a bit but I haven't seen any lately.

Thanks for voting! Glad people on mobile can see the polls, should make the turn out a lot better.

Edit:
I'm going to make a teaser/intro/announcement/debut right now about the future film. If anyone has clips they would like to share and allow me to use in the teaser thing, send me a pm and we will work it out.

My brother in law writes and records instrumental music. He was in the german black metal band valgaldrar before he moved here. He could probably supply some of the music and he probably knows some other bands

I don't know about everyone else but i just youtube'd valgaldrar and it sounds a little too intense for what i had in mind for the video. I'm open to suggestions though!

Haha don't worry he has mellowed out a bit since those days, his instrumental stuff is alot easier on the ears.
It doesn't really matter as long as you don't use Sail or rolling in the deep it will be fine lol

I have piles of footage Id be happy to share with you for the teaser but, I am not sure how we could exchange it. Just Youtube my user name and you will see some examples. There is a youtube downloader and that may work, but Im just not certain of the quality at the end

I like the idea of shorter episodes every so often, kinda like the shows on the Motortrend Youtube channel such as Roadkill that premiere an episode every 4 weeks or so. The poll is tough as it only lets you suggest one filming location.

I'll add this in, if you are planning on trying to make some money off of the flims, through YouTube views, shorter episodes more regular will certainly help that. You will get the same people coming back and back for each new segment, rather than once for a longer flick. Keep a regular schedule (try not to be too ambitious at first, you'll likely get to the point where you have a backlog of footage, that you'll be able to edit together a segment per week, but if you aim for 6 shorter segments every few weeks through the season, you can grow an audience from there.

yeah for sure that's what I was hoping people could send me youtube links to their video's or if they wanted to upload a couple second clip and send me the link. Quality should be as the highest definition youtube offers. Just don't want any music in it, so YouTube doesn't freak out.

thats doable, will make an easier work load. It's a heck of a lot easier to do a bunch of shorter films easier to keep people interested. The reason I selected to only have one location per vote is because I have a feeling people would vote for all of them. But I can change it I think to I can let more then one choice per vote. Maybe three choices per vote.

I have opened a kickstarter for this, Just waiting on them to approve it then will be open for backers. This is staying non profit, not selling the film, not paying myself, donations would be accepted but anything not used would be put into next years film or given back to the viewers with prizes or copies of the film put on a DVD at the end of the season. And for the schedule that is a good idea, right now for my YouTube channel I do Saturdays an Wednesdays but it can be gruelling. I will need to find a good space between the episodes so people won't forget about it in between the releases.

great feedback from everyone this will be my first actual film, I will have to make a story board so I know what I need to film from what angle so I won't just make it up as I go.

Voting so far is

A series of short episodes debuting the different locations and dates. - 4
A single larger film showing everything captured in one video. - 1

Fernie - 3
Valemount - 3

You could set up a free account on Dropbox to share files. The free account gives you 2gb. Big enough to share files a few at a time.

I was thinking the YouTube option would be the easiest. Just take the raw video upload it to YouTube, and then I can download it with a YouTube downloader.
some of these HD go pro files are more than that each. im going to look into the pay account see how much that gets.
Before that, I have an idea. What if people could pick a part from their video, then cut out that part maybe 10 seconds before and after the part you want to be in it.

So lets say you got a 5 minute video which is 8gb, and you want a part where you climb a chute, 2:50-3:40, add ten second before and after so you have only 1 minute 10 seconds, take that and cut that part out. It should cut down the size a lot, 1.7gb is roughly what you would have, and you would still able to use the free version.

What about Google drive

Never looked into that, I'll check that out.

If worst comes to worst I can send people memory cards in the mail and they can put them on the cards and send it back. That would take time though. Or just go to bestbuy/future shop/walmart websites and I could buy a memory card online and request it to be "hold for pick up in store", and they can go pick it up and then send it to me.

I forgot how big the files are on my Drift. They are huge at full 1080. I guess you'll need to decide what resolution you really need. 1080i is nice but unless your burning blu-rays, it's more than you need for YouTube. I think my wife pays $100 a year for 100gb on Dropbox.
