Popular talk show host on the Corus Network, Dave Rutherford was fired from his job for being critical of the stations flood coverage in Calgary. I for one am not going to listen to the station anymore out of spite. What are everyone elses thoughts? Rutherford said today that he will not be running for Mayor now. Screw Corus!

He was retiring soon. But then he got critical of Corus because the best coverage of the Calgary flooding was out of 630CHED in Edmonton...so he got the bum's rush a week early.

Alberta’s outgoing king of talk radio was unceremoniously booted from the airwaves Tuesday after criticizing his station’s inadequate coverage of the flood crisis in Southern Alberta.
NewsTalk 770 was one of several Corus Entertainment radio stations evacuated from its downtown headquarters as the Bow River started to rise on Friday. In the meantime, the station broadcast an Edmonton news feed, while still putting Calgary music stations on the air, talk show host Dave Rutherford said.
The switch prompted a live, on-air rant from Mr. Rutherford: “It is with profound disappointment that I have to tell you that Corus in Calgary has decided to direct resources in places other than information radio,” he said. “I would completely understand if you went elsewhere for your information.”
The next day, he was told he was off the radio. However, the host said he was never told why.
That sounds perfectly reasonable to me. What employer would not fire someone for suggesting customers go to competitors for better service?

Corus needs to put there big boy pants on and realize that the city is in a serious crisis and needs quality info. Not second hand, non priority news from another city. No???They still were on the air, just not giving flood coverage like every other station.

He was just mad because it meant he wasn't going to be able to hear himself talk as much as he wanted..... :D Most places if you tell the boss off, you get fired. Oh well.

One that is truly dedicated to the pursuit of meeting the highest level of customer service. If you can't handle criticism for your deficiencies you will never progress your service level or customer base. We don't live in the dark ages, people will go where they get what they need and want.

True, but those kind of issues should be handled internally. You don't solve the problem by telling your customers to go elsewhere! Don't get me wrong, I like Dave Rutherford, but he f'd up. I would think a man with his experience should know better.

Not knowing all the facts makes it hard to judge who is really in the right with this situation.
Somehow you would think a solid slap on the fingers and let him finish his term would have worked, that being said if they offered that to Dave he may have declined the offer...he's head strong an speaks it as he sees it, and that is what I like about him.
Too bad it had to end like this.

Rumours were swirling around as it is that he was politely asked to retire by Corus anyway. Apparently common sense and free speech are no longer part of the "company" line.

He will be missed, he told it like he seen it, no BS. And, you might not agree with him. That is what's called free speech and why radio's have an on/off switch. He will fit right in with the Sun Network News.

Is that where he is headed?

Sent an email off to John Voss who is the program director at QR 77 today. Explained my displeasure with the firing. Told them it was a pathetic way to end it with Dave and guess what????? No reply....

Yea im suprised they never fired him along time ago. I dont always agree with Dave Rutherford butim all for free speach&common sense. Main stream news these days is 99% propaganda.
With talk radio it is hard to control whats being said. The powers that be dont like this.

Look whats going on with our friends to the south rite now. Reporter are being threatened of beingcharged with crimes/violence for reporting on things the government doesnt want you to know.
This Micheal Hastings guys Mercedes blew up hours after he texted a bunch of his friends and family
the CIA was going to kill him because of some story he was breaking. And the main stream media
(and the "athorities") doesnt think any of this is suspicious.

Or This Snowdin guy that the US Gov is chasing around the planet, making deals and making threats
against other countries, to get this guy, that exposed that the NSA records every phone call, every email ext watch everything(literally) and hes the traitor for exposing this?

He should be getting a F#ckin medal!A free press is very important for our freedom. Scary times these are...

From internal corporate perspectives, this is typical of the Shaw family (Corus is run by the same family as Shaw Communications). They are not the easiest to work for - could care less about anyone or anything but themselves. Dave just had the guts to stand up, publicly, for all the BS. There's absolutely zero employee or customer focus behind their decisions. In Dave's case, his upcoming retirement was "not by his choice" and he guaranteed to "be back on the air with another broadcaster" in time to come. My guess is he found another spot and just couldn't hold back until the end. I commend him for speaking his mind and not hiding behind corporate politics.

Well he will be fine at Sun media if that is where he ends up. Ezra Levant is still there and going strong. Lol.

Yeah, I was thinking about that last night. I'm thinking he probably wanted to go out with a bang.
