While that is true,you have a much larger winch as well though....

This is getting outta hand a little...lol lol.
Most dealers are charging 6 to 900 hundred $ for a "factory " winch installed.......You can have a a pretty dam good winch (runva) shipped to your door for around 200$........Install is a breeze....
I was just offering an alternative, not starting a my winch is best thread...........nothing more nothing less. Pay three times more,i wont loose any frickin sleep over it.................

Sounds like you need to suck it up and get yourself a free replacement or at least "innards"

I actually did just that and it's now mounted in a meat locker for pulling game out of the back of my truck. As far as sucking it up goes... GFY. I never once complained, just sharing my experience.

me too ...im with DAve.... have had good luck on the winches... and when a problem arrisies Moto Allaiance is so awesome to deal with... and they are priced way lower then a warn is...... and guess what warn are NOT waterproof.... viper's are.

now never heard of the one you talk about... who handles them? ...

No winch is waterproof. Water resistant but not waterproof.

Dunno, my bronco 3500 lb one I bought, been deep for 3 years, it was clean and dry inside

I could clean my 2500 warn every ride and it would be packed full

Yep...I'll never run anything but a Viper. To truly torture test a winch, put it on my wife's buggy....I've never seen anybody as hard on sh!t as her. She's fawked up several Warn's, but the Viper's stood up flawlessly.

I had 4000# viper max on my ranger 500 and it would pull till it almost powered out then it acted like it had a slip clutch, the line would just come shooting out and go slack. It worked good just did that all the time. Was going to buy another but trying out the runva. So far runva has been great.

can't say the runva is the best thing since sliced bread, for the money it is the tits so far. has pulled me through some nasty shheeet, and several others. you definitely need to know where your fingers are and how skookum your winch points are, otherwise it is going to hurt.

Like I stated in the other winch thread. Viper didn't last me very long and a new champion winch from Costco online is cheaper than parts to rebuild any. And no viper are NOT waterproof. No winches are. I think I'm at the point that I'm sick of rebuilding winches and all the BS that goes with it and just replacing every 1-2 years. I think once the champion gives up I'll try a runva then maybe a smitty then a venom. Might as well try Em all.

Two things kill winches faster than anything.
Heat- winches are rated with a duty cycle. For most 2500# winches a maximum pull of 2500 lbs for ten seconds requires a cool down of 12 minutes.( check your manual)

Off line pulls- if you pull at even a thirty degree angle off center you put huge stress on the housings. Hence a snatch block is not only for doubling your power but helps you make a straight pull.
If your going to try pulling something heavy like Larry's ranger lol let all your winch line out. You have more pulling power the less wraps you have on your spool. (Check your manual)
If your underwater and stuck use your buddies winch to pull you out if possible as this is when the most water/mud infiltration happens.
Check your winch constantly for heat if it's too hot to touch it's too hot , let it cool down and it will last a lot longer

yes those winches get hot, quickly. Most winches don't have a lot of grease in them and with a long pull they will burn out. have never witnessed a 12 sec pull or a 12 minute cool down period, which is probably why most people rate there broken winch as junk. for the price the runva winch is a good alternative, the best?

What's the rolling resistance of an 8000lb truck ? Is it 8000lbs?
