I put skinz airframes on my '08 xp. no regrets, snow elimination is excellent and they are super stiff

I highly recommend WRP running boards for your buddies 08 xp. They are very functional, durable and a huge improvement over the oem boards. Also not overly priced like alot of the others.
They look good and can be installed easily in an afternoon.
My wife has a set on her M8 installed about 4 seasons ago and they're still 100%. She loves them as snow doesn't pile up like her oem ones did, plus they have excellent boot grip.
I had a set also at one point on my turbo but now run CR boards, which are in a very different league and about 4x the money. Not what most would spend on unless your building a custom.

If you have the money I would go with a tubular set over inserts. I put a set of Airframes on my 09 M8 and they are worth their weight in gold. Heard good things about the other brands too. But I also agree that anything you do will be a huge improvement. If you go with tubular see if someone has an air riveter you can borrow.

CR Racing makes a mighty fine looking set of boards.

A few years ago TSS was making boards too but I'm not sure if they still do.

If you know how to fabricate and weld you can build them pretty cheap. Just your time mostly. I built these for bout 120$, I wanted to try something little different then most others. Only thing I did diff then pics was put traction screws on outside tube.

Whatever you do do not buy the traction cleats that Skinz sells. They are terrible, ball up with ice and make your boards totally useless. I was about to drill them all out but then I bent the tunnel so ended up replacing the whole thing with CR racing tunnel & boards. CR racing boards are awesome FWIW. Very wide all the way back, some would say too wide but I love em.
