Thanks guys for all the helpful tips and suggestions, much appreciated. Let’s hope the weather cooperates for the first few days until we get farther south…!

Just got back from 10 days on the coast….

lots of campgrounds are still closed, so be prepared to shift plans based on that, the Oregon and Washington state gov websites do NOT have up to date info…. I use a few apps to seek out locations to camp (iOverlander, Gaia GPS and OnXOffroad are the ‘best’ for me, again not always the most accurate or up to date information)….

Weather is always a factor, just prepare for some rain…. And firewood, they can be sticky about buying and burning local, some rangers look specifically for that…. on the cali coast it was 30 bucks for 2 small bundles, in Oregon and Wash you can find for 5-10 bucks a bundle, lots of people sell it in their driveway and that’s usually always cheaper that the campsites…. They also discourage burning what you find on the ground)

campsites can be kind of pricey, especially if you are looking for showers and other amenities…. And a bunch are pretty close to the 101 when you get further south so you may have to deal with some road noise

I have a few hidden gem locations if you want to PM

In 2022, Glacier National Park will require all visitors to make a reservation to drive Going-to-the-Sun Road between May 27 and September 11, 2022. Reservations will also be required to enter the North Fork area via the Polebridge Ranger Station during the same dates.

Reservations can be made via Recreation.gov starting March 2, 2022, at 8 AM MST and are available 120 days in advance.

Thought this thread was interesting and I did some research on a couple of points; reservations and opening/closing dates of the highway over Logan Pass. As one can see above they have implemented the reservation process. The opening/closing dates change due to snow conditions and the following lists some of the opening and closing dates of recent years.

Sorry, after we got rolling I honestly did not spend much time on my phone (I suppose that’s how a good road trip should be!)

Made it down from San Fran to Pismo Beach, camped out along side the ocean, that was a cool view to wake up to

From there made our way to Malibu and Santa Monica Pier area, nice stretch of road with some crazy beach houses

Did the whole Disneyland / universal studio thing, walk of fame (which is really dirty and run down, was actually quite a disappointment), but dodgers game was cool to see

Looped back up through Vegas and had some friends / family fly in to spend the weekend with us

Dead-headed the drive back after Vegas as we decided to stay an extra day and the Wife rolled her ankle real bad in LA…Would definitely recommend to anyone considering and I do wish we could have had more time on the way back home.

If it wasn’t for it being so wet at the beginning, the camping would have been better, as we hotel’d in LA and Vegas. No issues with staying warm at night, you’d hate to do the trip mid-summer as no way to cool down the canopy… your spring / fall would be best.

Enjoy your trip, anywhere is better than work! Are you doing same truck-canopy camping style or rv/trailer?

We stayed in a pretty nice little cabin but this weekend will be in the truck camper for a concert in WA.
