Rinky-dink diamond drive screws

So I pulled apart the diamond drive on my '10 M8 to inspect all the bearings and gear teeth. Upon putting it back together, I stripped one of the threaded holes for the torx screw for the case cover. Any suggestions on how to repair this?? Thanks

Happens quite often. Just run a 1/4" NC tap through it and use a regular 1/4" bolt.

Yeah I would have to agree with this idea aswell its about the only thing you can do.

I was also told to use a thread repair kit (like a heli-coil kit) as there's not a lot of aluminum meat to be drilling out and re-tapping. Its one of the screws that's on the bottom of case cover kind of between and kitty corner to the drain and fill plugs. Drilling and tapping sounds much easier, unless I screw that up too! LOL

There is a 100% cure to problem with stripping the screws. I've fixed a **** load of them, no big deal to do. In fact every diamond drive should be done IMO.
Install 1/4" helli coils in ALL the holes. You will never strip one again, easy to do and the case will never leak again from a loose stripped screw.
The only reason to replace the case is if you busted it from riding or more commonly wrenching.....but then there lots of people that should never touch a wrench

Well...
6 stripped holes if you count the oil fill plug threads. Removed the bolt to fill the DD up and looky looky looks right wrong.

Might as well of jumped into the metal bin at the sled shop myself. Dirty parts salesman are about as low on the totem pole as rats are.
