Rig street access

I know the bridge is out at the north end and have found the route in to the south (by making the left to the garbage dump just outside Caroline) but that looks like about 30km of gravel, just wondering if we go the old way and stage at the north end where the bridge is out can we cross the river on the quads thereby avoiding all the gravel?
We are going out just for the day on Sunday.

Before it was washed out I saw a Jeep swamped in the river, under the bridge, and the water was pretty high up the doors and flowing hard!

i would not try pretty deep and with the whole no wheels in water thing it would be a bad idea
you can also access rig street from the south end from the bear berry end on the north side of the james river
( take 21 south before caroline and turn on the bearberry road it is all pavement )
i think it is about 17 km gravel to the north end where the bridges are washed out
lots of good camping spots off the south part of rig street as well

Last time I looked drove right up to the barrier I could not find a way across with my sxs

Went riding out there yesterday, we accessed it from Bowden highway 587, left down the hill at RR62 (TCPL pumping station corner) and went about 20km west on gravel from there. I'd be interested in attempting it from the Caroline dump road next time.

First time riding in the area, trails were great! well maintained and fairly moderate riding, will be back for sure! We were riding with some dirtbikes, and there was quite a bit of water for them, but we had a great time! It was already getting busy out there for the weekend, we probably saw 10 units rolling in while cruising back on the road after a machine went down.

I'll report back on the dump route in, we will time it and let you know how long from the turn off pavement to rig street and the condition of the road in.

That's the Hoche'mon Trail. I drove it a couple weeks ago. Its a good road and you come out just a few kms south of the north bridge on Rig Street

Above is my wikiloc route of the back way in to the Rig Street trails. It's a gravel washboard road so we went pretty slow and it took us about an hour from Caroline to a staging spot a little west of Rig street where the bridges are out. There is a nice staging and camping area at about half way along this road which would be about 30 minutes from Caroline which we will use next time, looks like good trails from there that connect with all the trails (might as well ride the quad for 30 minutes rather than driving the car).

FYI the bridges are still standing but the road just south of the bridges is completely washed out but passable on the quads, we did look around for a way to cross to the north side of the river on the quads but there is no way across, if only they would move the barriers enough for quads to get thru you could stage on the north side and ride across but I guess it's a liability thing if no body is maintaining the bridges.
Anyway hope this helps if anyone is looking for a way in, trails were awesome & we had a great ride on Sunday.

I was at the south side of the bridges this last week also.
If ohv are not supposed to cross rivers with thier vehicles why would they not leave access throught the barricades?
At the momment you can access throught the barricades south of the south bridge, then allong road to the north bridges.
Why not build a fence with ramps over the cement barricades?
I understand that the weight of the barricades help hold the bridges in place from washing out also.

My thinking is whoever was inspecting and maintaining the bridges had liability coverage, once the road was officially closed and the inspections & maintenance stopped so did the liability insurance so the lawyers said "block it off completely" so we are not liable if it falls down when someone is on it.
