Hey All!

New motorcross trail bike rider here. I am just starting out and other than a helmet I have no gear whatsoever. A buddy of mine told me that boots were the first thing I should get and actually recommended the full gear protection i.e chest protector, pants, elbow pad etc.

So I am wondering if you all have some do's and don'ts and recommendations on what gear I should be looking at I would appreciate it!

thanks guys. Any brands that are better than others in certain equipment?

Not really IMHO, the key is to go with whatever fits you the best and feels most comfortable. However - best protection does not always equal most comfortable in the shop, keep that in mind. Buy the best quality you can though, you won't regret it.

Good boots are essential. You'll also need knee/shin guards, pants, jersey, and chest protector. I'd also recommend some elbow guards.

If you have the money, look into a neck brace as well - Leatt, EVS, etc...

When it comes to gear, my opinion is the more the better, and always buy the best stuff you can afford.

Shop around for used gear as well, there's tons of it out there that's in great shape and it can be had for a fraction of the cost of new stuff.

I've been looking online quite a bit since the weekend for gear and I have narrowed down what I like lookswise but I am leery to buy yet due to not being able to try on the gear until I get it. Has anyone on here ever bought online from locomx .com ? I have picked out a jersey/pant/glove combo (FOX $167.95US) , helmet (FOX V3 $187.95US), goggles (FOX $65.00US), boots (Gaerne SG10 $325.95US), fullbody protection (AXO Aircage Pro $170.95US), wrist support (661 $20.00US), hydration pack (FOX oasis $59.95US), kneepads (not sure yet).

That website has a deal that if you order $999 US or more you get free shipping. So I can get everything for about $1150 after exchange. Good deal? Good gear?

I'm thinking that the local shops pricing won't be able to touch the pricing online. I am kind of thinking of tracking down each item locally and check out the prices and see if I like the looks of the items and most importantly like the fit and feel of everything and if the local shop can make a deal then great and if not I may go online.

Those are all great picks as far as I'm concerned.

Go to some local dealers and try stuff on though, and you never know what kinda deal you might be able to make on a package buy like that.

Have you tried www.motokuhl.com ? They're a Canadian online retailer and they've got some pretty good prices on stuff.

Good luck on the search,

Waxy

P.S. Be sure the free shipping offer is good on stuff shipped to Canada, and MAKE SURE it's shipped by USPS. DO NOT HAVE IT SHIPPED BY UPS! You'll pay a fortune in hidden brokerage fees.

heed that warning.

that right there is the only real tip you need for e-baying or online shopping lol.

I have no idea why American companies don't know this yet and don't auto ship USPS to canada.

High lifter for instance their default shipping to Canada is UPS.. even though i told them like 50X Don't Do that.. i even talked to Dan on the phone and told him.. start shipping USPS and you will have much happier customers.. ordered a gasket what do you know UPS shows up wanting 20$ on a 25$ gasket. like for real.
