I let my battery run down too low and now it won't charge.the screen comes on when it's plugged in but turns off if unplugged. I let it go totally dead in the past and never seemed to have a problem with charging. so I bought another battery but it won't turn on at all with the new one. Not sure what the problem is. I bought it back in 2012, so maybe the maps need to be updated? Not sure what the issue is, anybody have any ideas? Thanks

I am having the same problem , got new battery coming today and hope it works . I have read that the connection points can get a layer of corrosion on them and cause the unit not to recognize a battery voltage, I am going to clean and touch up the contact point and see if that works . Lithium battery's if they drop to a certain voltage they can't come back , most newer devices will turn off before they get to point of no return . I had a similar battery go to sleep once , I sent back to the factory for a reboot, but if the battery was older and had less than 10% a year ago it's toast . I will keep on this and post what I find .

I had issues with my 530hcx so I called Garmin in Kansas. It's a Canadian support number. The tech advisor got me to update my Rino answered my questions and got me going. I would suggest calling customer support.

Sometimes a hard reboot works. But when you hard reboot you loose your data. So plug in and save your data.
Turn off the unit, place two fingers in top corner and power up the unit keeping both fingers in top corner with slight pressure.
Follow instructions.

There is a update that you can download on the Garmin site , Mine was dead in the water and thought I would try one more time to fix this problem .

Go to this site Garmin Express It will prompt you for the software update and walk through.

My software was 2011 ( when you boot the GPS it will tell you the version ) now it says 2016 and works perfect .

I had to take the battery out and plug it into the wall to update .

Guys one thing to consider depending if you are using the 12V or the 120V adapter is the cable itself. The 120V connector has multiple plugs available to change the style, in doing this they made a massive weak point. - I had one adapter that would not charge because of the bent electrical connectors.

had a similar thing happen to mine. went to turn on, dead... plugged in, battery came on screen.. unplugged, died... plugged in into the laptop, powered it up, unplugged it and it works fine, never had a problem again... I was kind of disappointed in the fact that I want to rely on it.... I will do the update, spare battery is a good idea too
