I personally would never buy a machine that was a rental unless it was dirt cheap. I cant speak for canadian snowmobile tours, but im sure they kept the maintenance up. I rode a part day with two guys who had rented sleds in revy and they beat the piss out of them.

I agree with Mattiac. Most rental operator's are weak on maintenance as they only keep them as long as the warranty period is in effect. They then become a money pit for the next owner. Make sure someone who knows sleds looks at it with you so you don't get stung. Good luck!

Aside from the other comments which I agree with, those sleds apparently have new motors...why do they have new motors, who knows, but if they are new motors I would inquire what sort of documented warranty the sled comes with.

Anytime I have seen renters, its either someone who is pounding on the sled because, well its a rental, or its someone who has really no experience riding in the mountains at all and they are very timmid.

Go check out the sleds, if everything appears straight and they have an engine warranty, you get what you pay for...a rental.

I bought an 04 800 liberty 159" Vertical Escape Polaris from Alex (Great Canadian Snowmobile Tours) and I was pleased with the mechanical. The sled was an anchor and a pig to ride (that's when I went back to Doo) but nothing wrong as far as the motor, clutches, etc. Price was right also.

As said above, doo your homework.

buddy bought one thru local dealer it had 3000 kms on it......now has 6500 no issues but a stator that dealer covered so hes gonna put in a reman and hopefully go another 6500 go figure...oh it was the "guides" sled but who knows good luck

Alot of the rental sleds have been beat. "drive it like a rental" lol. So your sledding in Revelstoke and you blow your engine. What do you do? go rent a sled.... and "HEY! since it's a rental and it's not yours lets take this chance to bag this sled!!" don't agree with it but thats the way alot of people think. So deffiantly check it over good.

While I do agree with the above comments, lets face it...It's a sled. I don't know about you guys, but my Tach sits just over 8 grand all day (so long as I have it running right).
So as for bagging the thing, how much more can you "bag" a sled then by holding it to the pin all day every day. The problem becomes maintenance (sliders, ski-rods etc.) But you can see that by looking at it. The other problem is that guys will hit stuff more often on a rental cause they are less careful then with their own sleds... but again, have a look at it and see if everything is straight. It's not difficult to see that.

At the end of the day, all sleds are bagged. Unless you guys can get around in Revy in 4 feet of snow by using only half your throttle. I know that I can't. Put er to the boards and let's go.

gotta say when you said blown motor in your sled lets go get a rental, i was not thinking you were going to end saying lets bag the rental lol


but like manatee said show me one guy that doesn't bag his/her sled. we ride the chit out of these machines and it is fun. the repairs/ and maintenance will be where it shows as being a good machine or not. as for mileage most rentals i have seen for sale kijiji/ebay/craigslist have far fewer km on them than most guys put on their sleds in a year. price sounds fair give it a rip and see what you get. always a gamble buying used toys anyways.

Well i only partially agree with some of these comments. I rent sleds in mcbride and we are actually selling off some of our '09's and they are in good shape. AS far as maintenance goes we are very meticulous about it because when someone rents a sled from us we dont want them to have any issues. I know lots of people do ride the bag off the rentals, but we do a very extensive pre-rental checkover with the cust and then a post-rental check-over with them. And they are responsible for any damage that they cause. The odd time i have noticed something bent or broken after the customer has left and i fix it and the shop pays for it. Like i said before the most important thing to me is that when a rental goes out we want the people to have a good time and for the sled work well.

That being said we got an "09 M8 153 for sale for 6500.00 obo it's got about 5000km on it.
My personal sled "08 M1000 Snopro Nightfire with some mods done to it is 9000.00 obo.
One of the other "09's we sold already for a little cheaper had 8500km's on it and aside from maintenance never had to touch the motor for any kinda repairs. It's all about maintenance wether it's a rental or not.

I agree, most sleds that are on the hill are in worse shape than a rental, the rentals have a if you break/bend you will replace clause. as for some other ducted taped together low on oil no spare plug machines i have assisted in the past. they are ridden hard put away dirty /wet and unserviced for years on end. i'm positive if you rent a sled for the money they ask you are quite picky if it shows up dirty,out of oil, with no sliders left on it. I would think they would be the best taken care of sleds there are, and as for the beating on factor. Two stroke engines are built for the pipe temp and flow at full rpms. running them hard doesnt hurt them. lack of service on the other hand does

I bought an 05 900 RMK from Alex a few years ago. Sometime after I bought it I noticed that the pictures he had sent me were not of the same sled. Minor detail since I haven't had any problems with the sled and still ride it. I believe he provided the maintenance records as well. At least as a business he has a reputation to maintain, not like people posting their crap on kijiji and you'll never see them again. I think some people ride rentals really hard but then there's the renters that have never really ridden in the mountains. They don't don't go so hard and are afraid of shelling out for damage.

Edit - just looked at my info on the side and realized I bought the sled in 06. I think it worked out to be a fair deal.

thanks for the input,i have to agree no one rides my sled harder than me....but at the end of the day if you keep cluthes clean,broken ch!t relpaced,fresh oils etc.should be good to go.i do wonder why a couple of the etecs had new motors on the revy rental website?
