Re: Resect your parts person!

WHEN I SAID WE CARRY COMMON PARTS FROM THE LAST 3 YEARS I MEANT "ANY" PARTS SOLD OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS, Not just parts from machines that are under 3 years old! And if a part is that common it is more likely that it will sell out and end up on back order from the manufacturer! That is why we try to rely on after-market for alternate suppliers! But there is no perfect solution, because if we had the parts everyone wanted you would just complain that they are too expensive because our inventory and overhead costs would be incredible! You want reasonable priced parts in a reasonable time period, then you ask for a discount EVERYTIME. Maybe when customers are more willing to pay without complaining about the price, we can afford to stock more parts!

easy i hear what your saying. glad your dealer works like that. some do some dont. its a good way to operate. i dont ever ask for a deal or expect it. they give it to me because im a repeat customer and have spent ALOTTTTT OF money there. not to mention referals.

:nono: I'll give respect where respect is due! The last 3 times I have not been able to find parts in stock in Calgary, Red Deer, or Cochrane for that matter, on what I would consider to be normal maintenance related parts. A set of 4 buttons for attaching the mountain bag to the tunnel. 1 week wait from Bow Cycle (Even though they had a set there, with a new bag). Cylinder head O-rings, for my 08 800, had to wait a week. Rollers for my 08 TRA, none in stock....come on!! I had better luck getting parts from Buck Lake Bob. You are correct, there is a cost associated with carrying this inventory, and everyone knows it, but with Bombi forcing their dealers to take on more and more sleds every year (even more than they have ever sold historically) and the dealers trying to pinch pennies by cutting parts inventories, it is always the end user that gets the big screw! Last year we could buy a new sled for around $11k, that is now $14k! Even if you added an additional year of warranty that included not just the motor, but the clutch as well, you would be hard pressed to justify that kind of screwing in this type of an economy. Sorry, I looked everywhere for a tear for Bombi, their sales reps, and the service and parts, and I came away dry eyed. No sympathy here!

Re: Resect your parts person!

And wait until your machine is past 10 years old and you need your neighbourhood parts person to find you some of those discontinued parts! The way you have treated him or her in the past will surely determine how hard he or she looks and how much they care to find those parts for you! I'm sure if you were treated the same way where you work that we get treated on the counter, you would have a much less caring attitude towards those customers next time! Why take it out on us? we are just doing our jobs and trying to make a living too.

As someone above said it works both ways...There is nothing worse then going in to a shop to order or ask about a particular part and have some jerk try to talk down to you. Sometimes the guy behind the counter forgets that without the customer he/she wouldn't have a job. I don't expect the dealerships to stock every part but I do expect them to treat me with the same respect I treat them with.

I agree with you completely, I have dealt with and worked beside my share of idiot people who call themselves partsmen. MY goal at any dealership i work with is too make sure EVERY customer that I deal with gets the best service i can offer within My control! But that said I can only do so much, there is many hands involved with getting you the parts you need!

The parts dept is usually the bread and butter of a dealership! It is definately where a big portion of the money is made, and in most cases Pricing is dictated by the manufacturer, unless there is freight charges involved.

I understand inventory control and keeping costs down, and I don't begrudge any dealer making a fair profit....but I sure get tired of hearing "we can order it" on what are usually very common late model parts. Heck, I can order it too! In fact that's what I've started doing a lot of the time. :(

people may very well always ask for a discount on parts / items they need. im sure just to offset the outrageous shop rates some people have to pay if they cannot do the work themselves. not a single shop around as far as im concerned is worth the $100 HR+ or there and around.

some of the big shops house way too much inventory in the way of boats , sleds , what have you. its the customer who in the end carries the costs of those shops operational costs with far too high shop rates. simple greed which in turn causes people to want lower prices whever they can get it

All i am saying is don't take it out on those of us behind the counter trying to help you! Your complaints should be directed at the owmership or management who have the power to make the changes!

The thing I hate is how inflated some prices are. Like bearings, last year for my cat they were $45, I bought the same ones elsewhere in the city for $15. Give me a break. Not going to be happy dealing with a dealer who I know is gouging on parts.

I buy what I have to from local dealerships, otherwise I avoid them like a plague. Wouldn't hurt my feelings to see most dealerships in edmonton close.

I do have to agree with cycle jerk on some of what he is saying as I was also a parts person and a parts manager at one time. The thing that bugs me the most is price of parts. I just re did the motor on my 06 summit top and botom and whart realy gets me is the price of doo bearings for the crank 80 to a hundred dollars for one crank bearing you can go to bearing and transmission and get the same NTN bearing for like 10 bucks whats with that. The problem i have with parts guys is when you call in and they dont have the parts you need and they tell you they can order them so you say ok when will it be in next week they tell you. So you wait until next week and you call and they say O they must have forgot to send it so you wait another week and you call and the parts person says O they were out of stock it will be another week. So you wait again call in still nothing. By this time getting very mad with the parts person so I go over and above to find out what is going on only to find out the parts were never ordered. Thats my beef.

As i said before!

There are bad employees everywhere you go, just don't group us all together and appriciate it when you find a partsperson that gives a ch!t and will do his or her job and help as much as they can!

The pricing is completely in the hands of manufacturers, suppliers, ownership, and sometimes management, but i dont think that the gouging is that bad, Just insist on aftermarket parts whenever available and that will send the message to those that can make changes that you wont pay more than a product is worth! More and more parts are becoming available aftermarket, and a good parts person will offer you this option and know what he or she can get and where to find it! YOU are in control of what you pay for if it is too much shop elsewhere! UNFORTUNATELY YOU GOTTA PAY TO PLAY!!!

its hard to respect them when they want 25 % more than another dealer 1 hr away? who will ship for free?,Sleds and Parts included.
I was in the Biz for 30 yrs.got stuck with hundreds of dollars worth of parts that wernt Pre-paid. I can see why most dealers insist on pre-payment.I really miss buying my parts Wholesale from TCI.

I do shop elsewhere now. I don't buy really anything local, whether it's my sled or my truck. Sick of dealers trying to get rich off one sale. No reason you should be able to buy a product from say sask, ship it here and STILL be 15% cheaper then a local dealer, who is by far bigger (obviously buy it for less).

If they had good service I would consider it but most dealers attitude is "buy it or get out". Yea there are SOME parts people who try to tell you but a lot are just a$$holes and if you aren't spending $1000+ at that time don't even want to bother. Plus the sad part is those are the ones who don't know anything, and need a VIN to lookup any part

I have had pretty good luck at the dealers for parts. Yes it gets frustrating when they don't have the parts you need, but they cant stock it all. Usually they come in within a few days unless there back ordered. Ive had to wait for parts that they said would be in in 2 weeks and they came in in less time. I picked up some parts today and they had everything in stock. My axle that was broken for my m-10 I had a machinist buddy make for me rather than waiting the 3 weeks to get it. In this busy city its hard to get everything and we seem to wait till the last minute and try to get it all together and it never works and if it does your lucky.

I don't see how this is the partspersons fault? They are simply doing what they are paid to do! Too many people Blame us for all the problems with the dealerships, if you were "in the Biz" you would know that we have NOTHING to do with pricing! And any dealer that ships parts for free is surely working magic with his finances because there is no money to be made that way! Now that being said where i work there is no freight charges unless you want it rushed or you want it sent from the dealership to your home, and that just makes sense! If we were to ship to you for free they would just jack up the prices to cover that cost!
