RESPECT YOUR PARTS PERSON!

I gotta say that it gets frustrating listening to people complain about having to wait a WHOLE week for parts. 99% of people know in advance that they are taking a sled or quad or bike trip, would it kill anyone to plan ahead and inspect their machines in advance just in case the parts that you may need are NOT in stock at you local dealer? Your local dealer is unable to foresee every possible issue that each rider may face!

I am a former CW parts manager, and still work in the industry. Stocking items are ordered based on sales and common sense. The idea is to maintain minimum numbers of any part that sells more than 3 times in a year, but even we have to rely on another source for those parts

It is unreasonable to expect that every part you may need is going to be stocked if, and when you need it! And it is even more unreasonable to blame the person behind the parts counter who is usually doing their best to help you get back on the trails. Remember all we do is look up the parts and get them for you either from the shelf or from OUR supplier if they can supply it! We get just as frustrated when they don't have the parts too! And we get frustrated when customers blame us, yet we do not take it out on YOU!

And MAYBE if you didnt act like a jerk to your dealership and bad mouth them everytime you don't get your way, they would be more willing to help you and "borrow" a part. The customers who treat us with the respect and courtesy we deserve are the ones that we will go the extra mile to help! EVERYTIME!

Re: Resect your parts person!

i have a good connection with my parts person. i put large orders in daily. sometimes he screws up and it means me missing a trip or someone else. i let it slide because i understand what goes on and the deals i get outweigh it. they have no control once the # is punched in the computer. it gets there when it gets there.

It's one of those things that Parts are expensive and carring a large inventory cost money. Would you like to pay double for your parts just to have them there when YOU want ? I think not , you would go somewhere else and complain the price was to high at the dealer that had it in stock already. You always have the option to keep your own parts inventory for your machine. Thats only my opinion, everyone has ther own.

I would have to agree a good relationship can go a long way. I use to deal with alberta cycle way back when they were still on 118 ave and they were excellent. I could even buy a quad over the phone and they would have it sitting there waiting for me when I would get back in town. Also when it came to bringing in parts they would never ask for deposite oe anything they would get it in and call when it was there. Dam I miss the good old days

That's the way Mountain Toys in Cochrane still are. I have never purchased a machine from them but they get my stuff for service ,REPAIRS ( my damage) and parts. They are just great people to deal with.

i remember overhearing the supervisor at my dealer talking about shipping on certain items and how to order certain things at certain times so they can save on shipping etcetc. there is a science to it and it makes or breaks how fast your parts get there.

i also think some dealers lack stocking some pretty common parts sometimes. or not having enough.

i would figure things like chains and belts and wearing parts should always be in stock from the last 10 years. but not always the case.

Re: Resect your parts person!

I ask you to consider how many different machines each manufacturer has offered over the last ten years and then think about the HUNDREDS or thousands of parts on each machine, it would be IMPOSSIBLE to carry all of them so we focus on what is common and what has been sold in the last three years! That tends to be how parts are stocked!

I have waited months for my own personal parts and understood each time! Honestly waiting a week is not gonna kill anyone! And i can still survive without my sled or bike or quad, It is not the end of the world if i cannot ride!

And as far as the cheap owners go! They stock hundreds of thousands of dollars in parts at most dealerships, we have manufacturer warehouses because NO-ONE can afford to stock everything! I'm sure most riders couldnt afford to stock a spare of every part on their machines, so why should we?

This is my beef.... how many different wheel bearing part #'s are used on cat sleds????? same with chains?

I looked up the parts I needed used on 80% of cat models from 1995 to 2003 (thats a lot of sleds) but it would be 2 weeks for bearings and chain??????

I ordered from browns in Yorkton and had a chain delivered the next day (stock chain I can understand if its a specialty item) went to NAPA and had the bearings on the spot, they ran the A/C part # and matched it up with another make DONE.....

On another note, from now on when I need parts I'll call Maxwell, bet he's better stocked than Echo Cycle.......

Re: Resect your parts person!

haha yeah. i always love getting the old "well your sled is 5-10 years old" story we only recent the last 3 years. guess what there are thousands of zx and rev skidoos outthere still. same goes for the mcats and older rmks. i think stocking most used parts for those machines is important. because they should still have the records from those years. its not like they arent going to sell. they are old parts. but will move.

WHEN I SAID WE CARRY COMMON PARTS FROM THE LAST 3 YEARS I MEANT "ANY" PARTS SOLD OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS, Not just parts from machines that are under 3 years old! And if a part is that common it is more likely that it will sell out and end up on back order from the manufacturer! That is why we try to rely on after-market for alternate suppliers! But there is no perfect solution, because if we had the parts everyone wanted you would just complain that they are too expensive because our inventory and overhead costs would be incredible! You want reasonable priced parts in a reasonable time period, then you ask for a discount EVERYTIME. Maybe when customers are more willing to pay without complaining about the price, we can afford to stock more parts!
