Anyone have any tips to remove these snap rings on the gears?

There is an actual tool to remove those but failing that a termination screw driver(1/8 wide) and anther flat blade will take them off just pry up with the little one and pry over with the slightly larger one should come out slick.

Snap -On and Mac both make the pliers you need - they are used for rebuilding automatic and manual transmissions. Buy the tool - much better then distorting the snap ring.

I highly recommend buying the proper tool.

I managed to make regular snap ring pliers work but I ground off the small nipples and used the base of that as a opening point as its more square.

And instead of removing them horizontally, I had to balance the pliers vertically and it finally worked.

I was told to use pliers but you need 2 sets of hands that way I believe, took me 2 hours to finally get it done myself.
