Removing gas from interior of vehicle

Hey guys. Question for you all. My wife’s car was stolen last night, they ended up getting stuck and dousing the interior with gasoline. Don’t know if they were gonna burn it, cop says to get rid of finger prints. Anyhow before I get fighting with insurance I’m thinking seats and carpet etc should be replaced not cleaned. Thoughts?

A match (burning the gas ) will get rid of the gasoline smell........but it will probably lead to bigger issues....so maybe don't go that route.....

No way I would let them clean it.
They should replace anything that could absorb the fumes.
You might have to fight but see how it goes
I have had good and bad luck with adjusters

Seats, carpet, headliner, door panels because of back insulation.
All of it absorbs the smell

bad deal for you. Let’s hope insurance writes it off.

I agree with replacement of interior at a minimum however my sister in law went to gas for the generator one time and the can tipped over in the trunk. Spilled 4-5 litres in the trunk...... 2 ozone treatments and a steam clean and it was good to go, but interior in your case I don't think that will work. Gasoline is full of nasty cancer causing chemicals. Don't let them cheap out get it done right because you will have to live with it.

Sunlight dish soap will get rid of the smell. Might be hard to do on the seats but will get rid of it on the carpet and plastic.

Ps if you ever need to weld on a gas tank sunlight soap cleans the tank and makes it safe to weld on. It cuts the gas vapours 100%

My neighbour bought a truck that was stolen then sprayed with diesel on the inside. It was written off because of the. He cleaned that truck every way possible, took seats out and washed the carpet with a hotsie pressure washer, washed the seat covers and the foam. It still stank in there on a hot day. Made me sick to go sit in that truck! I think diesel would be worse than gas but still not good.

I would probably be fine if they replaced seats and carpet. Any thing that could have absorbed it. Find out on Monday when we go look at it with the adjuster

put alittle more in there keep the windows rolled up and park in the hot sun with afew mirrors laying around prob combust on its own

The fuel will absorb into the seat foam, carpets, padding, and off gas benzene and hydrocarbons forever. You will not remove this odor. Any experienced insurance appraiser would know this. They would most likely write it off if its an older vehicle. Let me know if you need any assistance. I'm an IAQ Specialist that works with all of insurance companies.
