removing air box from summit 700?

i am thinking of just removing my air box and just putting filters on the end of the carbs.

the reason why i am thinking about doing this is because when im in deep snow it all piles up in my windshield and clogs the filters that are there.

will putting the filters on hurt the performance due to it breathing warmer air from inside the hood?:beer:

ski doo has been using tuned airboxes since the days of the S-chassis. here is an excerpt from an interesting article about gutting or removing your airbox....

Years ago, before airboxes were designed as resonant systems, it used to be popular to cut additional holes in the air box to allow more air flow for high rpm. This is no longer a good idea. Modern air boxes can flow much more air than the engine will ever use. Modern engines have throttle bodies or carburetors with throats that are typically about 45mm in diameter, about 16 sq.cm in area. The inlet snorkel to a modern air box will be roughly 300 to 800 sq.cm - much larger than the throttle body or carburetor throat. The idea that the snorkel makes for a significant impediment to air flow into the engine is questionable at best. Drilling holes to let in more air is exactly equivalent to drilling holes in your speaker cabinets to let out more sound. Removing the snorkel from your air box is the exact same thing as removing the port in your speakers, the tube that's carefully engineered to have just the right diameter and length to reinforce the bass on your speakers at low frequencies. By altering your air box in any significant fashion, you're most likely going to cost yourself three to five hp in the mid range, and gain nothing measurable at high rpms.

Pop out the screens in the dash and wrap them with SLP screen and pop them back in I have had mine wrapped for 3 years on my 03 800 and never have a problem no matter how deep the powder. The snow doesn't stick to the screen and if you end up with alot of snow up there just wipe it off the screen and good to go again.

Do you wrap the foam with the screen:confused: I also have an 03 800 zx summitt that has has had bogging problems this weekend, with the powder blocking off the air intakes.:cool:

I popped out the plastic vent that holds the foam in place. I left the foam in the plastic vent and just wrapped some slp screen around the plastic vent and snapped it back into place that way it has double protection and it has worked well for me. no bogging as of yet. when your done the screen will be on the outside of the pastic vent that way it stops all the snow from getting sucked in.:beer:

i just wrapped k and n prefilter on mine last year it works good. just kind of annoying when you hit some deep snow then you have to stop and wipe it all off
