I said avy situation. I am unsure of its range in other situations or if it could be useful in locating someone from the air. I still think a spot or inreach are the best options for transmitting location data to a rescue party.

I didnt see the avy part. For this I apologize. I am truly sorry and would kindly offer to make up for it with an ice cold Lucky Lager...

Nah go **** yourself

AST Training... seen one in action, and had leaps and bounds ahead of the next competitive beacons. And yes I've lost several good friends in avalanches now, and wanted the best for me and my kids!!
Have you had any avy training, there mouthpiece ;) ? curious....
I'm sorry for your losses. I too, have faced the same.

I just wanted to know where you got that it was the "easiest and most accurate beacon made", as I couldn't find any information to back that statement up. That's all. Now I understand that it's the easiest and most accurate that YOU have used or seen used. I was starting to worry that I had bought the wrong beacon. That really is all.

I'm sorry for coming off like a mouthpiece azzhat. :)

I've tested the S+1 in the Valemont Clemina test area and had no problem finding, flagging etc.
In a real Avy situation (and I hope I'm never tested) I believe me and my s+1 will perform as well as any.
I too did a lot of research before entrusting the life of my son and myself with this unit and at the time felt I made the best choice I could.
This is not a competition, the best equipment will fail if the user hasn't practiced, even more important is making the correct decisions (AST 1) before having to deal with the "real life test".
All Beacons have their pluses and minuses, assuming yours is less than 3 years old the technology is great. Over that some do not perform well. Funny, the old SOS units do extremely well in some ways in field tests and yet Multiple searches have problems.

Practice....Practice....Practice.
AST.....AST....AST

Recco....another tool....it never hurts to have extra tools.

In Vernon, SAR doesn't use the RECCO system. We had very little training with it and i think that most SARs in BC other then the lower main land (Vancouver area) has little training with it.
RECCO, has been mostly used on resorts and most all resorts have their own SARs team, a provincial requirement and they use them.
I personally had less then 1/2hr training with it and it was more of an intro to it...if that and that was a few years ago.

IMO the beacons used by sledders and other winter back country user's are much better then RECCO. But that's my opinion.

AST training??????
I've been to the mountains one time in my life. December of 2014 just after I bought my sled. Didn't even know what AST was at that time. I will certainly get it before/during my next mountain trip. I had my beacon, shovel, and probe during that trip tho.

Happy????????????????????

My point here was that when you buy a $500 pair of bibs or a jacket, it should be sewn in, like the SkiDoo gear as mentioned. The fact that it can be located from the air and doesnt require batteries or maintenance, are more than enough reason to have it included in our technical gear. At no additional charge. Can SAR find transceivers from a chopper? Anyone?

So not trying to be a d!ck, but how do u know the pulse is the best, research is all u based this on

It is a very good beacon yes, the s1 is also a very good one too

Doing a avy course and also a refresher course, I can tell u 100 % that the s1 was easier and more accurate by quite a bit, especially when the avy guy hid 3 beacons in a 8 foot circle, than the pulse

Joholio, if they have the latest Recco detector it will pick up the standard 457 KHz frequency of a transceiver. The video did not give a range though for the transceiver detection.

My FXR jacket and bibs that are three years old have it sewn in.

Yes. Research was all I based it on 2 years ago. I never said it was the best. It was rated #1 at the time. I'm not gonna call it the best. I'm also not going to call it the "easiest and most accurate beacon made".

I also didn't say that the S1 was a piece of crap. I simply asked where the idea that it was the "easiest and most accurate beacon made" came from. Cause in my research, I could not find anything that said this. That is all.

You guys are reading WAY too far into my question.

If you're going to state that one beacon is the "easiest and most accurate beacon made", I'd like you to be able to back that up with something.

Same as when someone says their 4wd crew cab f150 has 500lbs more payload capacity than Ford's website says it does.

Just prove it to me, if I ask. Cause I can't find that info.
