Rear shock

Need to replace lower spring on my rear skid shock
never done this before just wondering if there's anything a guy needs to know before hand ie. tricks or special tools?
its an '07 rev 151" skid

I just remove the shock assembly then use a ratchet strap to compress he spring. Remove retainer plate and let the old spring fly. Reverse process for the new spring. No special tools required. Might need to use a rubber mallet to line the retainer back up after. Check the bushings on both ends aswell. Sometimes that axle will bend aswell and needs to be replaced

If you have access to a Napa or Canadian Tire get a strut spring compressor or you can make a very simple shock spring compressor tool with a couple pieces of 1" square stock and a bolt. Using ratchet straps is a good way to lose a finger or an eye.

If you are handy with a drill you can build either one of these in about 5 mins.

Good way to lose an eye. I had a near miss where I didn't take off enough pressure off the spring and the top cap shot through the ceiling of my dads shop when I took the nut off the strut. I second it's very easy to make a very basic one using square stock, threaded rod and small u bolts... That's essentially what you get on a loan a tool from crappy tire, make sure you take off enough pressure. I was using a crappy tire compressor when I shot the cap through drywall... And we all know ratchet snaps can let go fairly easily!

I have just put the bottom in a vice.

Get a long bar though the spring. One guy pull down on the spring and the other slides the plate out.

Well now I'm kinda scared to even try. You can only "almost" loose an eye once or twice before it really happens lol
And TEX you can tell her that this winter when we're sleeping in your basement sleddin all day lol

LOL yeah, I tried it with a rear motocross shock a few years back, gettin it tightened up wasn't the issue, it was during re-assembly when you have to release the tension on the strap and spring and hope that the strap doesn't explode or get your fingers caught somewhere!
