myself and 2 other buddies were out riding around atlas and window mtn lake today and had seen a massive natural slide that had come down and had heard and seen the avalanche report and knew better then to go play in the big stuff so we went and played in the trees and cutblocks had a great day then towards 1:30-2 pm we heard a group of sleds CLIMBING WINDOW MOUNTAIN!!!! huge open slope rock faces on either side with a massive convex wind roll at the top that constantly gets pounded with sun and heavy wind loading and a group of guys are climbing it!!! we were watching from across the valley praying that it didnt come down but after they climbed it they sat at the bottom of it. You know who you are in this post and hopefully you will read it and realise that when conditions are bad like they are and there is a nasty nasty avalanche 500 feet around the corner you dont go climbing!!! So please people quit being idiots and play safe out there.

They were probably thinking they were lucky cause they had the mountain to themselves. The sad part of it is that even if you went to advise them you would probably have gotten a lot of verbal abuse. I really don't know how many more reports and SPAWs have to be issued to get people to listen. I pray I don't hear of any avy deaths on the news tonight.

The same poor decisions made around here this weekend, there were more sleds parked up at the resort than I have seen ever and there was a near miss very close by yesterday.

Tourist decides to sidehill onto an aspect above treeline and set off a very large( I'm guessing size 3 ) slide. Slide travelled down a drainage, just missing a group coming up the trail, it crossed the trail and continued down another drainage. Rider who set it off was ok did and not need digging out. LUCKY!

I was so mad me and my bad were all looking at each other in amasement that people were that dumb!!! I wish i got a better look at the sleds at the cabin there were really only 12 -15 others out there besides us. big old debris pile at the bottom and thre climbing right to the bottom of the convex roll that goes into the flat part up top and at 1 point there was 2 riders on the hill. Yeah they were thinking wow some guys rode all these trees and meadows before this hill and didnt see this beauty in front of us we must be lucky guys! Yeah real lucky that mountain didnt slide like the one around the corner with tree's snapped like tooth picks and creek beds comlpletely filled with debris. I didnt even bother driving over there I wasnt gonna risk my life the guys i seen at the cabin looked like they had been riding for a few years so you think they would have known better. Glad i didnt hear of any avy reports when i got home.

Maybe someone should take some pictures and post them up here!At least let some of the people see what 'stupid' actually looks like! It's sounds like some people are to smart to learn by the spoken word so maybe big pictures will help!!The mountains are only as dangerous as you make them! But it makes me cringe when you see azzholes taking unnecessary risks when the conditions are this bad for slides! All the safety equipment is useless if you're being a retard and climbing under cornices or climbing on risky slopes that are primed to slide!Wait till the conditions improve then go at it!If you're in a group you might have a chance in a big slide but if it's just you and your buddy your probably screwed! Not everyone is ready to jump in and save a complete stranger!I will not even sit and watch guys climbing in stupid areas just for pissing rights on the high mark our group will keep on going!I've dug enough guys out of slides over the years (most complete strangers) because their buddies are panicking and burning up precious time!Been lucky and none were dead but after you ask why they were in that spot most are 'like we never thought it would slide'!I know sh.. happens but it only take a little bit of time to learn what to look for and listen to the avy reports!I'm a little selfish about my weekend being ruined with digging out a corpse of someone who had a bigger set of balls than me or wants to live on the edge!!!I've seen enough dead bodies in my life and quite frankly my quota is full!!Common sense will save you faster than the newest and best technology!!!Remember it's like anything it is only as dangerous as YOU choose to make it!!

I should have brought my camera out that day! maybe somebody like polarice will have a pic of window mtn area to show how extremely dangerous this hill can be! Ya for some telling them just doesnt make it clue in! we moved on after about 3 pulls on the hill from these guys every pull up it I was sitting there thinking please god dont let it slide I was expecting to see that whole mountainside fracture and realise! especially seeing the slide beside it! when you see trees 3-6 feet around getting snapped like tooth picks and it wiping out a nice chunk of mature forest you should get the hair on your neck standing up that is telling you get the FAWK out of that area and go somewere smart and safe!!!!! we destroyed little cutblocks and meadows, creek beds all over that area and had a blast there was no reason for anybody to be climbing any of the hills that day!!!! even on saturday at castle my friend and i were the first tracks from the second lease site into middle kootenay! we made it to the top of middle looked around I realised it wasnt a good day for being in most areas around castle so we headed down to the gate and built a jump to hit for the day instead of going into bowls and hills.
