So I'm considering trading/selling my RSX850I gator.
And going with an Outlander.
I'm not overly familiar with Can am.
I like the X MR's
But if a person was to get a MAX or DSP and do a rad relocate, how do those compare?

Also. I'm leaning towards the 850s. But all things considering, would a 1000 be better does a person really need a 1000? Or would a 650 keep up with everyone.

From what I've seen speed is not a thing, everyone seems to go slow through mud holes.

Any feed back from guys that run the mentioned machines?

I ran a 650 for years, lots of power. I have been out the quad side for a while now but what I would check on is if the XMR and the regular outlander have the same viscoloc? I know the XMR Defender has a new visco loc, not sure if thats the only one.

What is a Viscoloc? Is that like a diff locker?

Biggest thing is I believe the XMRs have lower factory gearing (someone correct me if I'm wrong)
Other than most things can be added without too much issue. (Snorkels, tires etc)
If you're one to take a machine in stock form and go the XMR is a good choice if you're in the mud.
I have a modified XT set up like an XMR but I have the 1000 short chassis this way and was able to choose accessories.
I believe the 1000 is a max chassis and the 850 is the regular length would be my main consideration

Get the 850 XMR. its the shorter Chassis to the 1000. The XMR is much more than a Rad relocate. It comes with lower gearing, Stronger axles, stronger rear end, 14' rims and 30" Cryptid tires. Stronger floor boards and foot pegs and is snorkeled higher. i do believe that they also have a different clutch calibration as well.

My 2 cents
About half the XMR features are worth buying and the others you're stick with imo. Snorkels and rad relocate and the lower geared transmission is worth it.
I've never been worried about my "regular" xt axles, floor boards or foot pegs failing me and I run heavy 29.5" outlaw 2s. Cryptids are a high-mid range mud tire, by no means a pure mud tire as the XMR is marketed as so.many people upgrade them anyways. Same sort of idea with the clutches, they are "upgraded" but lots of people got to a QSC or STM setup anyways.

Sort of outlines my comment about liking to have a stock bike with warranty for mud riding cant beat the XMR. But there of course is things that people like upgrading as with any quad

I've got a '13 650 XMR, brother a two buddies as well. I also ride with a guy who has a 1000...for me 650 is plenty for what I do, lots of power, can really phuck your lawn up. The 1000, crazy power...and thirsty.
It depends on YOUR needs/wants. My 650 has 28" Mudzillas on 12" rims.
We all love 'em. Mine will do 104 km/h on a gravel road if your worried about keepin' up.
I'm not an extreme rider, just wanted to be prepared if I ever needed a snorkel or rad kit....which has happened several times.

Check the warranty...I think it's 2 years for the XT...and 6 months for the XMR. If you're buying the XMR they have a pretty good idea why.

Ended up ordering a 2021 Can Am xmr 850.
Figured I'd stay local and bought from Gibbons Motor Toys. I've never dealt with them before.
So far a good experience.
Figure the new machine should be here sometime in September.
Looking forward to it.
Up graded to the synthetic rope, added a snorkel kit, and bead lockers. As well as a storage box.

Didn't get a skid plate. The sales guy showed me the underside of an older one sitting there. Looks like a beefy frame.

Cant wait to try it out.

Nice ride for sure, but I think you should reconsider the skid plates. You could probably skip the axles guards, at least in the rear because they have a tendency to bend and cut your boots open, but I consider the rest essential and have gone through more than one set.

Btw, Gibbons Motortoys is a great place to deal with. They will have the odd service issue, hung over mechanic, etc. just like every other place, but if you will rarely be disappointed if you deal with Justin in the service dept. It's amazing how big a difference the right service advisor makes.
