When I bought my truck a year or two ago I opted for a 1k deductible, because it lowered my premium and in my 8ish years of driving i've never had an accident where I had to make a claim.

Recently my quad decided to try and get into the cab of my truck , and that's something I can't fix with tyraps or Alabama chrome:(. What I would ideally like to do is somehow lower my deductible on my truck and suck it up and pay a higher monthly premium. Is this possible without having to 'reinsure' my truck? I would way rather have $500 cut out of this years sledding budget then 1000$, especially when I wanted to take a few trips out to vale before the gnar gnar disappears

Your kinda stuck. Thats the risk of taking higher deductible over lower. Most brokers won't touch your policy now. Pay the $1000, have the window and all other damage fixed, and lower your ded to $500

Put up some pics so we can mock you because of the damage!

If you're willing to sit on a damaged truck for a while, you could always try to lower your deducible now and make a claim later. ...but that is fraud and they may give you the 3rd degree when you try to file a claim and/or drop your policy outright. As chitty as it is, I'd just take the hit.

BTW,:nopics:

That's called insurance fraud.

Now that I rethink my question I understand why it'd be fraud lol.

Haha, a buddy of mine and I made a temp garbage bag window, I'll have to grab a pic before it gets replaced.

Can't change a deductible after you have had a loss. If you stick to the higher deductible and don't make stupid claims, you will save money over the long run unless you are a bad luck type. Leave the deductible at $1,000 and go forth & F-up no more! You probably don't want to make small claims anyway.

How ow much for the repair, depending on your insurance company you will pay your ded. Then they will raise your premium, it's a win win situation..........for them

After you had your vehicle for a while, (5 Plus years), you can easily change to a 500, from 1000, deductible , the difference is only a few dollars, as I was told by my insurance agent at renewal time, ...of course if you got into an "accident" in the mean time, is a different story i am sure, just food for thought for those with high deductibles on their policy !

I called the claim in and got a number and all that, then went to a local body shop. The icbc lady said my insurance would go up approx 1k for 3 years and I'd also pay my deductible, so if the damage happened to be less than 4k I could just pay cash and be a tad bit better off.

But once the estimator at the body shop had a look he said the damages prob will be well over 4k when its all said and done. The window will be around 1200 (its a heated power sliding one), then my bulkhead is completely bent, my box is also rock guarded so that'll be a few hundred, anndd to top it all off my cab is bent in a bit to. Its a slight bend but when we moved the '60' seat forward you could see the paint had cracked/flaked at the epicenter of where my winch kissed her. Oh and if I go through ICBC i'd get a rental car (a car b/c I don't have roadstar) which would be that cost for about a week.

Oh and I tried uploading a pic but apparently the file is to large

****ty deal, if it's well over 4k then going through insurance spreads the cost out a bit, sorry about your luck

It totally depends on your situation. When I was high risk, my premiums went down pretty much a dollar for every dollar I added to my deductable. By having a $1500 deductable, I was able to save myself $1000 a year in premiums.

I've always approached this from the opposite direction. I pay an additional whopping $3/month to have a lower deductible at $250. If I make any type of claim in just under 7 years, I'll be saving money. Only after 7 years of paying $3 am I starting to pay more than had I just had the $500 deductible. With theft and vandalism these days.... I fully expect to make a claim in 7 years. My wife wrote off my Grand Cherokee, and I've had my trailer and two sleds stolen as well.... having the lower deductible saved me $250 each claim. (Oh, and they acted like they were doing me a favour only charging me a single deductible when both sleds were stolen..... crooks)

With ICBC depending on your driving experience you get one accident covered where the insurance will not be raised. I hate ICBC.

Ya, he hasn't done the formal estimate yet so it could turn out to be less than 4k when they actually start to tear into her, but it could also easily go over that amount. I've also never rented a car but I'd assume that cost for a week or so would be pretty substantial. It will definitely be easier on my bank account to spread the cost over 3 years. It's crappy that it happened but oh well, sh*t happens....thats what beer is for haha

Yep, its a 13 f150.

$3 a month sounds a lot better than ~53,106 and then 159 a month

I don't think anyone but ICBC likes ICBC haha. My dad did mention that they shouldn't raise my insurance for just one accident but maybe I am still considered a young driver?
