it can, depending on weather but nothing major, almost always room at the town site as it is quite large, if wanting to get by the Athabasca river though it can be tough, more and more people are just leaving their campers there since it is free, but think there is around 12 sites there. Good luck think we are heading out to Christmas creek area north of Blue ridge, that can be fun but have heard the harvesting of trees this winter has buggered up a bunch of trails.
Camps can only be setup for 14 days in one spot, then by law they have to be moved or removed.
A lot of enforcement is complaint driven. A few calls to ESRD might produce results.
I'm hoping to get a bit more info on this thread. I know it's been awhile since anyone has posted here. I'm wondering how rowdy the camping gets up that Windfall Road. I traveled up there the other day on my way home from a business trip, I'm looking to head out there with my wife and 2 small kids to do some exploring with the side x side. From what I found, the old Windfall town site and up a bit more by the creek seems to be the only places to get a travel trailer in. Anybody camped there with there families? How is it?
Windfall is not bad just don’t go on a long weekend...... few trails around but not a lot of riding for small kids quads .......
the old town site is about 1/5km past the bridge on your right. There is also a spot about 1/4 km past the bridge on your left.
Depending where your coming from swan hills might be a better choice for quiet and kid friendly.
