Quad Tracks

I have a question for the sleders out there... Don't turn it into a lecture if you oppose, just simply say you oppose and why... I'm wondering what sledders would think if a guy was to put snow tracks on the quad and pay for a trail pass and ride the trails with a quad tracks? Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't tracks on the quad have the same effect on the trials as a track on a sled? track is track right? obviously either one could screw up the trail from letting on and off the throttle so if you're not being a jerk on the trail and using even throttle that should be ruled out. As some of you may have seen I was looking for a sled but tonight I bought a new Polaris 2010 850 EPS instead because I got a very good deal I think and I plan on throwing tracks on it for the winter. It should have enough power and with EPS should handle nice. Anyhow let me know if I was going down the trails and saw you sledding if you would want to chew my @zz out or not for riding groomed trials with tracks on my quad :d

Who is in charge of the groomed trails that you can ask if they would allow you on groomed trails with quad tracks? Have any of you seen people on quads with tracks on the groomed trails?

I was wondering the same thing after our ride out to Smokey a couple weeks ago. I think we'd still be pretty unpopular with the sledders, but I'm curious exactly how much less impact the tracks would be on the trails.

This discussion has been going of for a few years since some irresponsible quadders started using wheeled atvs on sled trails and tearing them up.

HOWEVER, at approx. .55 lbs per sq. in., a tracked quad has double the floatation that most sleds have. They do no (ZERO) damage to the trails. On the groomed trails that I have ridden, I've always been invited back because of the way the Tracks pack and level the trails.

As long as you're buying a trail pass and supporting their efforts, I think the sledders who say no are as bad as the mountain bikers/hikers who give me dirty looks on my quad/dirtbike even though I slow down and use common courtesy.

I quad and sled, a quad on tracks leaves no damage to the groomed trails unlike a quad on tires - that I can see getting some flack for.

Thanks guys. I just like the idea that you could run tracks on the quad so you still have fun in the winter but don't have the cost of owning 2 ATVs because that's double insurance, registration and maintenance costs. Tracks are say 4000 and I think they would pay for themselves over time

When you ride tracks, you soon seek out areas that sledders don't. Slower, more technical trails are my favourites and I never tire of pulling or winching out sleds that have buried themselves by going to slow in deep powder.

I asked this question before and most of the guys running those trails have no problem with tracked atvs.

they do however dislike regular atvs as most people root on it and ruin the groomed trails.

If people could take it slow atvs wouldn't ruin the groomed trails either btw.

I want tracks too, but $4000, ouch......I hear yeah though, one machine, one cost.......however tracks take up some room in the shed or garage too.......

I seen on kijiji some people have used ones for $2500ish, not sure if its a good idea to buy used tracks????

Tracks are one item that I wouldn't buy used. Some had recalls, some had outright failures, and other just didn't work well.

Yeah I'm super excited to get out on the new quad. I put the new one in the garage today and man is it ever nice with all the features. I have to get a few things for it before I can ride it though like a winch, front & rear bumpers, seat back so GF can ride on it with me. And I have to sell the old quad :d Yeah I would imagne tracks are a pain in the butt to store but still worth it over getting double expenses I think

My buddies still groom there trail the old way,you know a groomer you tow behind a scandic or VK,but they figured out a ATV pulling the grooms way better.

cant rip with a Tracked ATV nearly as good as a Sled. but it would still be fun considering i sold my sled since i never rode it for like 3 years due to weather.

so ive been considering tracks for awhile but they are so freaking expensive.

If you like to rip with a sled, I don't think you'd be happy with a tracked quad.
It'd be like wanting to use a D10 dozer for drag racing.
