anyone notice the size difference in tires when mounted. have a set of dunlops that claim 25" diameter, they are lucky to be 23 and 1/4. WTF.
was looking to put new tires on, want them closer to 26"

anyone measure any other tire diameters.

Make sure you put some air in them. That should help make up the difference :rolling:

But I do believe they are measured from lug to lug.

Size does vary. Some brands are close but it's a crap shoot. Most tires do measure smaller than advertised though. I don't think tires are going to help you though. It's gonna take more than a set of friggin tires to keep you from gettin stuck:d;)

You come see your buddy Dan, we'll get you fixed up:)

most atv tires measure short, its considered normal to measure within a inch but only ones i know of that measure tall are bighorns, mudzillas , pit bowl growler ,also swamp lights but you have to keep the air up .

my brother has 26 mudbugs they measure true, i had 27 mudbugs and they measured short and narrow(with 7psi), and from what ive seen the 28 measure true.

there is a technical way of measuring a tire, you suppose to measure the diameter and divide by pie(3.14), the wheel can not be on the quad, and you cant measure right after mounting (if it take 30psi to mount the bead that would stretch the rubber), also note the width of the rim can affect the height of the tire but its maybe .5 inch

When you are ready to buy tires throw up a post here of what you are looking at and I can bet at least ONE person is running the size on the same width rim.

Tire
Rim width
Air pressure
Height

Looking for tires for an 01 400 Polaris Explorer. 25-8-12 front/ 25-11-10 rears now. looking for an all round mud tire.
found the 25 tires where shy of 24". wanted to get some 26 " tires now not sure what will fit and only want to buy i set.
have had good luck with mudlite xtrs and bearclaws. would like light tires for mud. limiting factor is the 10 " rear rims. WTF.

friggin tires.

One quick rule of thumb for me, if its a radial it measures small due to the construction of the tire, they usually have flatter faces.

I am getting confused

Eg, my rims are 12" tall x 7" wide

So I run a 27(height)x9(wide)x12(rim height) front and 27x11x12 rears

Are you saying that your tires are 12" rim height front and 10" rear?

I am curious what the lead ratio is for that front tire, have you done a ratio check by marking a tire and seeing how many times it turns compared to the front,.. if it's not that much I would say buy a set of $100 takeoff rims and put normal tires on them.

thats what i was thinking,,,esp with a 4x4.the tires should turn at the same speed,,,otherwise you think it would be hard on the drivetrain.maybe it is compensated for somehow????

not sure what you guys are thinking, the overall tire diameter is the same 25, just the rim sizes are different, yes it's 4x4.
as long as the tire circumference is the same you can have any rim size you want within reason. a 25" tire from the same manufacturer is the same with a 10, 12, or 14 rim
