Umm what? 100 fires burning in the province, 30-some out of control, more total acreage burned so far this year than all of last year. It's one friggin' long weekend for crying out loud. Boo Hoo! Grow up!

but what if it lasts for the whole summer? no fires, no quads, no camping, no beer:eek::eek: fugg that i'm with dave, no beer:eek::eek::d:d:d

hopefully it will only be for a short while. everyone please be carefull, your lives could be at risk in a fire.

Nope. We're headed out anyways. It's gonna rain....and/or snow...Ban or no ban, we will quad, eat, drink, and be merry.....we'll just have to start earlier and end earlier due to the "hug the greenie" policy this weekend. (and no, this is in no way a slight on the forest fire issues for the rest of the province.....it's a shot at the spineless politician who used this recent tragedy as an excuse to pander to the people that don't like weekend camping....there's frickin SNOW on the ground where we're going FFS!)

i can somewhat see what your saying Dave. but lets not fool ourselves, on a chance that a spark does get out of control, dead grass and heated mud light up and fall of you r qaud exhaust and a fire starts, just sayinit can happen, WHO THE FAWK IS AVAILABLE TO FIGHT IT AND WHERE THE FAWK ARE THEY GOING TO GET THE EQUIPMENT TO FIGHT IT WITH AZZHOLE.:realmad::realmad::rant::rant:. sorry for the name calling but its deserved in this case. grow up you bunch off piss pants babies and maybe give some of the funds you were going to spend on fuel and camping this weekend to the peeps who need it, those who lost everything but the shirt on their back and the wallet in their pocket. Many of the evacuees dont even have a job togo back to anymore much less a home.:(

done.

They should. I heard they started a fire once.

For all you that think I'm not being sympathetic about Slave Lake: I'v got two letters for ya. I've contributed to the charity and then some...I just don't brag about it on here. I've been here long enough that I've seen several province-wide fire-bans....the difference is that it was DRY then. It is, and will remain my contention that this ban is simply using the recent situation in order to justify a form of control/punishment over those that like to camp. I was looking at the Alberta ban site on and off all day yesterday...and I could see the logic in the areas that were banned and those that had warnings. I could also see the logic in the areas that were not banned, as they were (and still are) wet. Hey...I will obey the "law" this weekend as civil disobedience is not my thing...but nobody says I have to agree with it.

I don't see what the big deal is...we have fire bans in Saskatchewan all the time! Not a big suprise if there is a ban on a long weekend. It's just something we're all used to.

thanks for clarifying your point. i think like i stated though the reason behind the ban is more for the "if" one did start there is no equipment/personel left to fight it. we are already getting recruits from other places so everyone is getting thin on fighters. just sayin.

Totally expected given the circumstances. Don't need a fire to have a good time. It's going to be a fabulous long weekend!! Enjoy it responsibly!!:d:beer:

that friggin dave, man he is a rebel.;) everyone just be careful, as you may start a fire, so have something to put one out, also it would be real easy to get caught in someone else's fire starting abilities. fire fighting sucks.

shheeet happens, be safe, have fun, screw the mean greenies.

beer is a fire fighting implement, bring more beer.

Very True,,Place's keep firefighter's so that not all the resources are in one area.

We stayed in our area to assist or backup fire departments next to us.

A lot of people asked me why I didn't go to Slave lake.
That is why I stayed home to help here.

I can understand the damage as I went to Kelowna a few years ago..

Dave is NOT a rebel. Dave is just a rapidly aging old man who one day hopes to retire in a democratic society. I do like the beer idea though. Hahahaha.

as much as i enjoy a good campfire, i totally agree with it, cause some people have no respect for the backcountry, and probably would run if they caused a fire if they even saw the consequence of there actions. on that note i'm heading to revy to take on the the 3 ft of fresh snow up top this week, and enjoy a smokie in the snow.:d

I totally understand what your saying and I personally feel that I can make an educated decision in any given situation as to whether it is safe to have a fire....unfortunately there is no cure for stupid and with all the "protecting someone from themself" restrictions and laws in place we have to allow for the thinning of the gene pool. in a perfect world joe stupid who ends up starting a fire while trying to cook a hotdog in 80km wind during a break from his bicycle ride would already have been killed at an earlier age due to head trauma from not wearing a helmet or sucking on lead paint or some other form of risk which legally imposed regulations now prevent...it is what it is...

As for the "Brag about it on here" comment... I think that it is more a method of gathering support and spreading the word then "hey look at me, I'm a good person" thing....

Hey...I was just responding to being called an azzhole for not supporting the Town of Slave Lake....nothing against the efforts of others. The way the whole province has come together on this is amazing.

Why do the Indians get special privileges  last time I checked us Whites fight their fires for them or do they now own there own firefighting gear? Are there big garage doors in the back or them Casinos :p

RANT OVER
Because First Nations Reservations are under Federal Jurisdiction, the Province has NO say what goes on there.

i was wondering if a certain yellow summit riddin by a certain member of a certain organized nation may have been responsible for a few of the west country fires. last time i saw this certain person, he was rippin up the back country, laying waste to the green and a fire was coming out the back, good thing there was snow. :d:d:beer:
