while they are at it better start shutting down drive thru windows as the whole purpose of them is to drink/eat and drive. :cool:

So we now need a sleep meter to test all those who get behind the wheel. If it is serious why are we not doing something about it? Well we are at it, a happy meter, a sad meter etc. because emotions can impair people too. I bet these can be more of an impairment than a phone. In the end you can drive or you can't drive. I know there are many on the road that should not be but how could we as a society take away 25-30% of the licences because people are clueless? I would not complain if drivers needed to be tested every 3-5 years and the tests got way tougher. Oh ya but then our economy would get go farther down the drain. Bottom line is if you can juggle bowling balls while driving with NO mistakes, I say go ahead, but if breathing is a distraction to you and you make a mistake, that is when you deserve a ticket, not before.

and they should allow insurance companies to monitor this and determine if they should insure you if you have an accident,,, oh wait. if you decide to take a discount so they can, they will.

Sitting at a stale green light in town today, line of traffic going through both ways but held up with the block ahead. Thought I’d wait to see what happens? In the oncoming lane a RCMP car with the jackass on the phone held to his head pulls into the center of the four way. Guess what... light turns red, dumb a$$ stuck in the middle or the intersection and vehicals trying to get around him because he got caught day dreaming on the phone. He then realized it and turned on the lights...our light change so I drove by him clapping at him in total augh.
My hero, so well trained.

Ive been caught in that situation myself....a call comes in from dispatch while waiting in traffic at an intersection....instead of moving forward and possibly getting caught moving in the wrong direction, I tell the driver to wait until I get another 30 seconds of information to determine which way I need to go...may or may not have been the case for what you saw, but often there’s more to what’s happening than just what you see....

Well I get a ticket other day from a peace officer for distracting driving ticket, was not on my phone or had it in in my reach, I was activating my dash cam and said that to him and he said to bad. I am going to fight it as I have 50/50 chance and what pisses me off is so if they think you were on the phone even if you can prove that you were not, how can they.....just because they say you were you can get a ticket and heard you can't win them. The thing is that it's 287.00 and 3 points, that's bul**** so I'll fight it and bring my proof, ticket says on or in reach of phone....August 22nd.

they have list of what you can do and what you can not, also says cops are allowed as its there business but I know they are talking to wife's or buddies and not always work....anyone else with a honest bs ticket

FYI, Alberta Regulation 304/2002 (under the Traffic Safety Act

64(1) Where, considering the circumstances, it is reasonable and safe to do so, a peace officer driving a motor vehicle may, in carrying out the peace officer’s duties, do one or more of the following while not operating a siren:

  1. (a) drive the motor vehicle in excess of the speed limit;
  2. (b) proceed past a traffic control signal indicating stop or a stop sign without stopping;
  3. (c) contravene any other provision that is prescribed by the Act, this or other regulations or a municipal bylaw governing the use of the highways.
(2) Where, considering the circumstances, it is reasonable and safe, a peace officer may, in carrying out the peace officer’s duties, park a motor vehicle, while not operating any flashing lights or siren, contrary to any provision that is prescribed by the Act, this or other regulations or a municipal bylaw governing the parking of motor vehicles.

Can use radio, cell phone, computer terminal etc all within the law.

Under mr dress ups protection I’m thinking the law feels safe handing out bs tickets to boost there egos and keep feeding the cash pig. Unlike the states when you have someone pointing a 9mm back at you you might start to thing twice whether you should issue a bs ticket.
its going to start, public is getting pissed. I’m just about there with the meter maids in Nelson.

I guess if we insist on holding a phone we will have to tell the cop that we were going to call 911 because you thought the guy going the other way was drunk. Then he has to let you off and should turn around and go chase down someone going the other way. You don't have to be right just a concerned citizen.

We can all use these devices "within the law" I think the concern is the use outside the law??

Cart before the horse with most new vehicles. Too much tech and too much reliance on it. Swerve to avoid ruts & potholes and the wheel shakes to wake you up! Drive in winter and slush / dirt buggers up the cameras and sensors. Dont get me started on ABS - useless on ice and slush. Most of the crap is designed for drivers in city.
Wouldn't buy new CRV because they have a web browser built into the dash - talk about distracting. Prob is that most new vehicles are the same.

Saw the uber crash vid - neither the car nor the observer/ attendant nor victim were paying attention - 3 dumb dumbs!

I went and filed a formal complaint against an officer who gave me one for holding my dead phone who would not listen to reason when I showed him the battery was dead, and is an inanimate object at that point. Staff Sargent reviewed the details of the law with me, and actually eating a hamburger and drinking a cup of coffee are cited as ok in Alberta. But not holding ANY electronic device. You can eat a Big Mac safely but not talk on a radio under Alberta logic.

I agree with rules, but they gotta make sure they were on phone not just think they were. Or have photo of it, as like others have said, I do see lots on phone and no care if others are looking at them. But BS tickets should be able to fight/win unless they can prove it. So they need to have two in car and one takes pics as they pull up, then can't deny it. No wounder they get a bad name ....assholes

Hundreds of thousands march on Washington this weekend to change the gun laws, but no one marches to when approx 10 people a day are killed by distracted driving daily and 10% of all driving deaths 15-19 years are from distracted driving. Phones far more dangerous than guns.

Ya exactly man, and how come never blames the fricken guy pulling the trigger, it's always the gun, I've got them they've never killed no one, it's always easier to blame the object rather than the person,

As Agent 69 would say ... the old "Guns don't kill people...people kill people" speech. I always thought that its the bullets / loss of blood / removal of vital organs that kills people.
So lets ban bullet & gas sales!
