So starting a new project right away. Thought some people would enjoy seeing the build.

Found in a neighbors yard. Close enough to a barn find for me. The engine teardown and rebuild starts in January.

1972 AMC Javelin SST with a 401 sadly it's attached to a automatic.

Haven't heard of many builds with the 401 but if anyone here has done one ANY help would be great.

Will get more pictures soon

I see plenty of work ahead for you. Not familiar with the 401 though more the 390 that they had in the SC Rambler Hurst.

The 401 is the same motor as the 390 just with a 0.16 inch longer stroke. Will be LOTS of work but that's the fun right?

I had one of these years ago. It had a 390 in it. Ron St. on this forum had a Javelin back then and I think his had a 401.

There is an AMC club in ST. Albert I dont remember the name of it but they do a couple of swap meets every year usualy in the canadian tire parking lot, the president was a lot of help when I did my 68 years ago. Also if you need parts coyote auto just outside of Tofield had a bunch of Javelin's a couple years ago more than likely still there. Good luck Trailrider

I had a Javelin back a few years that I built. Sold it years ago. Had a pump gas 401 that I built myself with a little nitrous kit on it. It was a fun car and ran good too. Went a best of 10.57 @ 126mph at the Edmonton track. I drove it everyday on the street and even drove it to the track a couple of times. I had an automatic in it, couldn't find a scatter shield for 4 speed and they wanted a lot of cash for a clutch for that much power back then. Awesome cars, you'll have a lot of fun with it. Here's some low quality pics of it. They were scanned from some bad photos, lol.

I know where that 2nd picture was taken! The ugg (white elevator in the background) isn't there anymore.

A sweet looking car. Not a fan of that ram air hood but still love the rest. What was it at for HP?

Good luck on your project. It is difficult to find parts, but they are out there. As my picture shows, I have a 1970 that I am in the middle of restoring. A 1970 Javelin SST Donahue with 42,000 original miles. My cousin bought it new and I bought it from him in around 78. There is not much difference in the 390 to 401 ( mine has 390 with the borge warner T10 tranny ) we used to race it in Edmonton in the 70's. I know of a lot of people that have parts. Like mentioned earlier, the guy in tofield, I have his number if you want it and I sure he has some later models like you are doing. There is a guy just north of Saskatoon that had too many and was downsizing last year but I don't know how many he has left. I could PM you his phone number if you like. There is also a couple of great places in the states that have a lot of stuff and great information. I will get you their web sites later

Doug at American Parts Depo has a lot of parts, knows his AMC's, and is a great guy to talk to and get info. He has worked on AMC's all his life and I think his dad owned a dealership.

I bet that waggoneer has the 401! open the hood.....

I always loved the Javelin..........I remember stories about my dad and mom wrapping theirs around a pole the day they were married......

I'd go for a Pacer or a wagoneer. Could you imagine a little pacer with a 401, a turbo, and a slap shifter
