we had one of the 1st autoshifts on a location trying to climb "empty" up a short but steep grade hill with no real run at it. He finally had to get pulled up. They have theyre place but not in the field imho. Highway sure ;)
Problem with some autoshifts, when you start to spin your wheels they grab another gear thinking your going faster.

Theres a manual mode in the I Shifts..not sure about any of the others...in that mode you make the shift when you want. There's a learning curve with these rigs just like there is with anything new. The biggest problem with most newer trucks in winter driving is abs/traction control...starts to apply wheel brakes when slippage is sensed and also limits engine rpm when slippage is sensed.
